Good camera, but has been out for a couple of years now and can do better for cheaper with either Canon or Nikon, IMO (and I own a Pentax SLR, so I am not anti-Pentax).

This camera was released in UK in June/July 2009 so its not out for 'couple of years'. I do not understand what do you mean in your comment. Please be specific as to which model of Canon or Nikon are you comparing it with?

The price quoted here is the cheapest price since its release and please do consider that it comes with dual lens as well.

I wonder why people are voting this deal cold! Its one of the best DSLRs available in the market for the functions and quality it offers

Canon EOS 550D twin lens:

http://www.cameraworld.co.uk/ViewProdDetails.asp?prod_code=PON10B000102

£30 more, but longer telephoto and much higher spec.

Nikon 3100D twin lens:

HIgher spec. and around £120 cheaper.

Sorry, op, I don't mean to be critical, but even though the Pentax is the cheapest its been, its still not that great a deal compared to more recently released models.

Hmm the Canon or the Nikon do not have a front control dial or weather resistance. I should think the viewfinders are not as large as the Pentax either.

Those models are totally different to the k-7 & should be more compared with the Pentax k-x.

If you are going to do comparisons then at least do like with like!!!

I agree. You must compare the K7 to the Nikon D90 (I dont know the Canon equivalent model, but it's not the 550D).

Great deal and a very good camera. The only downside compared to Canon & Nikon is that the range of lenses is smaller and probably does'nt reach the quality that Canon & Nikon can provide (though at a price!)

Okay, okay, looks like I'm outnumbered and I know when to admit defeat. The point I was trying to make, though (clearly not very well) is that even though £808 is the lowest this package has been, it still doesn't represent particularly good value IMO.

There are numerous reasons for choosing a DSLR, rather than a compact if you are serious about photography, including speed of operation and interchangeable lenses, but the biggest factor has to be image quality and I still feel that you can get at least as good, if not better (for the same or less) by going with newer models from Canon or Nikon, with the extra features you get with the very 'latest' SLRs (e.g. full HD video).

I admit the K-7 is classified as 'upper mid-range' whereas the ones I mentioned are 'lower mid-range', but the only area where the Pentax is significantly better is probably robustness, which would only affect a Pro, or semi-Pro.

Its a side issue, but it also p****es me off that cameras are cheaper in America. This is true of all cameras, but for some reason, I have noticed that it is particularly the case for Pentax, which is always much more aggressively priced in America than Canon or Nikon. I suspect you could easily pick up the twin lens K-7 in America for £600 or less and at this price it definitely does represent a very good buy, but not at £808.

Rant over.

Its now £749.99

weather resistant body + 2 weather resistant lenses for 750

sounds good to me

Semi-pro spec for mid-range money makes the K-7 an incredibly attractive option for the serious photographer wanting something a little less mainstream without compromising performance. Solid as a tank and feature packed - yet surprisingly compact - the K-7's only real weak spot is its high ISO performance.
