Its the DA-L version .. kit lens with plastic mount, no hood, pouch or quick shift.
Can be bought for around £160 new.

Good price. Hot.

Seems like a cracking price to me. Been wanting to get into photography as a hobby and was thinking of the Nikon d3100 but this deal with a telephoto lens is very tempting.

Good price, but not as good as the sub £400 (I think?) price beginning of Jan.

Brilliant camera and a cracking price! Paid £450 for the bundle with the 50-200 instead of the 55-300 last year and it was worth every penny. Highly recommended for anyone wanting to take their photography more seriously and its also incredibly easy to use.

That's a great camera for anybody going the SLR route. Highly recommended.

PS. Don't listen to the people critizising the AA batteries. AA battery technology is at par with propriator batteries plus you have the advantage of being more independent when travelling.

And one more point in Pentax favour: Any lens ever produced for Pentax will work with this camera.

One of the best DSLR cameras to start with! I bought it for £399 from the same retailer as part of their Black Friday deals in November last year. It's a steal even at £429! Grab it fast >>>

A great deal & voted hot but it may be limited - I suggest you phone any order to check stock / delivery. I ordered this online (delivery 3-5 days) & payment was charged to my card immediately. On my chasing after 5 days, they (Leicester mail order & very polite) said they were having to get it from another branch. Promised for today or tomorrow - I am looking forward to it!

Excellent deal, heat added. 3% Quidco as well, so effectively £416.00 - bargain!!

How would this compare to say the Nikon 3100D? I appreciate that the Pentax deal includes a 55-300mm lens but is the quality difference between the Nikon and Pentax with 18-55mm lenses hugely different? Basically I am trying to work out how much quality you may lose for the lower price (if at all). Thanks.

Hi Ilepak,
I spent many weeks agonising over the choice of 1st dslr (or superzoom bridge camera) - Like you, I came down to the 3100d or the K-x. Basically I suspect the Nikon is marginally better from what I have read but went for the K-x because the Pentax has Image stabilisation in the body meaning it is available for all (k mount) lenses - I plan to get ( second hand c £50 ) the very highly rated 50mm Pentax-a f1.7 which is apparently capable of producing great images. The 2 pentax lenses in this deal are both very highly rated for kit lenses.
The Nikon 3100 stabilisation is in the lenses which therefore cost more. The equivalent set up to this deal would be c £700 - I couldn't justify that & then this deal came along - my k-x came this morning - the only problem is, it is white! & would not be out of place in a dental surgery - I am getting used to it & will keep it though (see my earlier comment on 21st if you do go with this deal). - Good luck! - I am sure you can not go wrong with either of these cameras.

I have this lens on my old Super-A 35mm (not that I use the Super-A any more!). You're right, it is a superb lens and shouldn't cost you too much second hand. There are some other really good Pentax lenses our there that you should be able to pick up pretty cheap.
