Why did someone vote this cold? It's cheaper than many places just selling the body (oo-er!)

Many thanks!

Possibly because there is no mention on the Argos site of this being the 'Super' version though it does seem to say 'super' on the photo (pity the 'see larger image' shows you the back view) and it doesn't have the cowl that the standard K100D does- if it's just the K100D it's very old stock at a reasonable price but if it's definately the super it's a bargain.

Does anyone know why Argos deals on here bounce you through half a dozen sites before you get to the Argos web site?

?....not for me, 1 click on the 'go to deal' and I'm there!

I did sa y appears to be a super. If your interested reserve and collect, if it turns out not to be the "super" as per catalogue/web pic, either kick up a stink or hand it back and get refund.

No returns on cameras at argos.

Well you could just go instore and give them your reservation number and say that you are unsure which model it is, then you could view it before you pay.
I have done this with items I am unsure off, without a problem.
Regarding refunds, if an item is not what it implies it is, and you take it straight to the refund desk, they would refund you.

For info,
in the new catalogue page 499, Item is listed as
Pentax K100D Super DSLR with 18-55lensproduct number is the same, 560/8043, and price £279.99
Hope this helps.

Seems that some are incapable of thinking for themselves let alone thinking outside the box.. Horse-water-drink.

Don't buy a price alone, although both are capable cameras. Best to get your hands on several makes/models, at say jessops, buy the one you feel most "comfortable" with and can afford. Once you've got the bug Mr credit card will take a beating.
#13
Might be worth knowing that Pentax will probably be launching the K200 (replacement for the K100) at the PMA's in a week or two (although the K100D is supposed to be a pretty capable camera).
#14
k200d is coming soon, will wait for it

I think the Nikon D40x is a better deal, especially with the £40 cashback and various discount codes etc. Last time I checked, Currys and Dixons were the cheapest places to buy.

Although not as well know as Nikon and Canon the K100D is a very good camera and can match the performance of the former. The lens supplied is better than your average kit lens and don't be put off by the 6.1m pixels - for average size prints it produces brilliant results and I doubt if anyone printing standard size prints would notice the difference between this and a 10m pixel camera. Metering is very accurate and focussing very fast. Don't take my word for it as you can check out the many published reviews. If this price is correct it's an absolute bargain.

Possibly but isn't the Nikon D40 restricted by its lens system.

This is a very competent camera and far better than the non DSLR options. But if you are serioulsy considering using a DSLR then the initial cost of the body is less important than the options for expansion. Nikon and Canon are dedicated to the DSLR market and the long term support for their products is certain. Save up for a Nikon D80 - the price continues to fall and should reach optimum levels during this 1st quarter. I am a long time fan of Pentax and especially admire the quality of pictures taken with their compact cameras. Most DSLR purchasers do not buy additional lenses - if you think that you will be happy with the kit lens then this is a bargain. If you see this as the entry point for a real interest in photography then buy Nikon.

This is DEFINATELY the SUPER K100D - I was in Argos at lunch and they had one in the display cabinet.

I concur with all of that. Also worth mentioning that the Pentax models are compatible with all older K mount lenses - I recently picked up a lovely 50mm f1.7 prime from Ebay for use with my Pentax K10D

Have a look at the reviews over at www.dpreview.com.They are both very good camers but the Pentax has integral image stabilisation and the Canon does not. You can also use old (and very cheap) manual focus lenses on the Pentax but not on the Canon.

The Pentax is red hot at this price!

dpreview are owned by Amazon now, so reviews may not be totally inpartial ;-)

Voted Hot - just for the "for the lazy" comment :w00t:

I know Amazon now own DPReview but Amazon don't make cameras, though I accept that they sell them. I still say that their reviews are the best and I have never had cause to doubt their objectivity.
