Highly regarded digital SLR at the lowest price it's ever been and including free Pentax case and class 6 memory card.

Good, established UK dealer selling UK stock.

In reviews this camera comes out pretty well on a par with the Nikon D5000, with very similar features (including HD video) and image quality, but cheaper.

I have got the K-m, which is the next model down and I'm very pleased with it.

The K-x combines a variety of advanced features and user-friendly functions to ensure an outstanding level of photographic performance within a compact, lightweight body.

The K-x design is based on the award winning PENTAX K-m, an entry-class digital SLR camera launched in October 2008 that gained popularity for its compact, lightweight body and simple, user-friendly operation. The K-x features a newly designed high performance CMOS image sensor and an upgraded filter function. It also features a whole host of advanced features and such as live view shooting and movie recording, approximately 12.4 megapixels and high-speed continuous shooting. The K-x is the perfect camera for first-time digital SLR camera users, as well as an ideal backup camera for more experienced photographers.

Unlike Canon and Nikon, Pentax has IS (VR) build into the body, which means you can affort better quality lenses (because you don't have to pay extra for the VR mechanism in each lens). Very good price for this camera too. Hot.

I have two Pentax DSLR Cameras the K100D Super and the K20D and they are both Fantastic , I have a massive arsenal of lenses Manual and Auto focus .. If you are on a budget but still want to be able to build up on Lenses at a good rate then Pentax is the way to go .. This shot was using a £6 second hand lens and £12 extension tubes .. Im not saying they are the best as I have never used anything else but you cant beat the extra wide variety of lenses available

seriously, less propaganda and bias with it seems *every* lens or camera deal - it always kicks off an argument and is essentially a form of trolling. if you dont understand the strengths and weaknesses i would advise reading up on it before posting troll posts.

in lens and in body os each have their own advantages and disadvantages, it is far more useful to camera buyers when you discuss the strengths and weaknesses of each, rather than focusing on saving a few miserly bucks in an expensive hobby.

nice camera, i was checking out the pentax when i went for a dslr

Hence my reference to the review, which is more neutral than my personal dicussion of the camera..
The decider for me are: AA type batteries, fast prime lenses (rather than slow zoom), and compatebility of almost all Pentax lenses ever made, which give me a huge choice of lenses. After all it is the lens which determines the outcome of a picture, not so much electronic gadgets of a camera body.

Could not agree more, your comments were perfectly reasonable. The lack of camera based VR was the reason that I made the switch from Canon EOS 35mm which I had from their very first EOS model to Pentax. The fact that I also had some Tamron Adaptall lenses that I used on Canon FD and converted to Pentax K was a bonus.

Only problem I can see with this camera is that it has no visible AF points in the viewfinder.
How do you know what the camera has focused on? :?

Only a problem if you leave it to the camera to select the focus point but on practice its not that big of an issue even then.

It's the bit that is in focus.
