Maybe, but get him to review it again at £89.99 delivered, and then see the result.

I've had the S45 and it was(til I lost it) an excellent camera, very well built and took great pictures. Got a Canon IXUS 65 now and it's brilliant.

I think the reviewer is being a bit picky, picking up it taking 5 photos in 17 seconds... how many of us want to do that with a cheap digi camera.

I agree with the previous post, he should review it at £89, I think its a steal and when my wife opens it for a birthday present she'll think I've spent a fortune on her (hurmmm ha ha ha {demonic laugh clouded in mist and green light})

What is important is how long it takes from pushing the shutter down until it actually takes the photo. I think.

See a better review here: http://www.steves-digicams.com/2007_reviews/optios7_pg5.html

"S7 gives you a lot of camera for your money." - and thats talking about it for over £150!

I sold my Eos 350D the other day for a few quid short of what I paid as I got a Canon rebate, an almost free camera for 9 months. This tiny camera looks a super replacement, obviously not in the same league as the Canon, the main limitiation seems to be the flash which is not very powerful, but it takes decent quality movies and the rear viewfinder looks good. Thanks OP, and my first google checkout purchase/discount! Long live google checkout, death to paypal!

I have always fancied one of these ultra small cameras since they first came out at 3 or 4 MP..

BUT

The sample photos on steves-digicams are seriously poor. They are really lacking in sharpness and detail. I could get the same quality by stretching the photos from my current 3mp camera. Whats the point of a higher MP camera if it does not capture any more detail than a lower MP model. I think the slow shutter response would annoy me too.
If they had a lower MP version cheaper i would get that.

Can't you adjust the MPs down on the camera menu ? I do that and find the response times improve on my various digicams.....

It would be nice to hear the experiences of HOTUKDEALS members who have actually bought one of these - I'll let you know when mine arrives

I have used one of these. To be honest, I'd rather get a used Canon Ixus 30 (SD200) for about £25 from ebay. It's a few years old model, but in my opinion much better in pretty much any aspect. If you're after a new camera, I don't think this one is worth even the £89.99. I'd rather strech a bit and buy something at least half-decent.

I've got one of these at £89.99 and I'm very very happy with it.

With the good movie mode & the cheap price of SD cards it almost makes my Mini DV camcorder redundant.

The menus are easy to understand - i've only reads bits of the huge manual - everything is intuitive. It does everything fine and it is very tactile in the hand - the alloy casing is cool to the touch. Battery life is good although I have bought a couple of extra batteries and a case and a screen protector for £7.99 off a HK ebay seller.

The only very small criticism I can level is that the macro does not go down as close as my old Ricoh; but that's no problem really as I only really used that feature for really close-up engineering photos and my Ricoh now stays at work in my drawer.

Are you advising HDUK Members to buy a used £25.00 camera from Ebay? I find your comments to be unhelpfull :whistling:

Yeah, what's wrong with that?

Lot's! & lets not forget the warranty & free delivery! You make me laugh, stick with Fleabay! lol

I'm just suggesting that personally I'd rather pay £25 for a used camera which more or less does the same job as this one, which costs £90. It gives people a second choice. If you prefer new stuff, great. But some people may not care as much about warranty, but are simply looking for a great value camera.

OK I accept what you are saying, but from my experience I would never buy a used digicam. If you pay a little more for a new one (with warranty) you have at least 2 years grace. I have a Nikon which has performed briantly (I would not have bought it secondhand & I picked up a complete camera on Fleabay for £10.00!) :w00t:

Personally, I think with the Canon cashback promotion on offer for the next few days, the Canon Powershot cameras are a better buy than this.
