This product is probably not on the daily shopping list but for those who like to manage their finances, this is currently one of the best options since Microsoft stopped MS Money and Intuit stopped Quicken in the UK. It appears to do the basics well but maybe not as well specified as the above two but does allow to get updates from the banks via OFX file downloads so you can keep in sync. This is also Windows 7 compatible.

This has been available on the developers website for 25% off (I missed that) but have never seen it offered for less than that. Therefor new years resolutions, this appears a decent price to get the finances in order. Hope this works for some of you.

I would first try a free open source solution like

Money Manager
http://sourceforge.net/projects/moneymanagerex/

or GnuCash
http://www.gnucash.org/

£28!!! Just because MS no longer produce Money, doesnt mean you cant use it.

I just use MS Money 2001 which does it all (windows 7 64 bit). Costs about £2 on ebay.

Quicken 98 here :-)

Good post but reviews are not so good. Many thanks Gino for the alternatives, looking at them to decide which is best. Unable to transfer my Quicken to Vista.

Thanks and agree with your point. The advantage of buying this software will be that it will be supported going forward which does bring some relevance to making the move now.

Thanks for your post. I think most of the poor reviews have come from old Money and Quicken users who had all the additional functionality and making the change normally creates resistance. I have posted some other recent professional reviews which appear to show a more positive light.

However, for the average home user Personal Accountz should offer more than enough and provides an excellent alternative to the packages we have reviewed so far in this series.

Expert Reviews
The strength of Personal Accountz is its simplicity and the way in which all pertinent information is shown on a single screen. Essentially, the application concentrates on tracking where your money has gone, where it is now and where it might be in the future, so you wonft find any mortgage planners, pie charts, debt reduction advice or currency converters.

What Personal Accountz does, it does very well, but for £40 (or even at Amazon's discounted price of £30), it seems expensive compared to its competitors. However, the distribution CD contains Windows, Mac and Linux versions of the program, all three of which may be installed for use by the same person, and this might well be the deciding factor if you use more than one type of computer.
