PES 2009 is the latest installment of the award-winning Pro Evolution Soccer Series, which is known by millions of fans for its superior gameplay and incredible realism. For PES 2009, Konami is already planning a raft of extensive new additions that will further bridge the gap between PES and the real thing. The new game has undergone a stunning graphical update to ensure its players look and move even more like their real-life counterparts. Similarly, all-new options allow users to tailor the game to their own tastes, while new moves, innovative new control elements and key online elements will further the realism of the new game.

Disappointing game. Again. And online is still a mess.

Will probably be in a cheaper deal at gamestation in the run up to chrimbo too.

the only dissappointing thing is the online bit...the gameplay is still by far the most realistic...except for defending against messi and ronaldo :x

I don't know ive played fifa 09 and PES09 and I've found PES09 to feel arcade like whereas fifa feels a bit more realistic. I suppose its personal preference though.

Anyway good deal

Totally agree mate. I've just got an xbox with Fifa 09 and been playing it solidly for a week now. Sadly it has so many flaws IMO - I so much wanted to love it as much as PES. But I can't. Passing on PES is instant, like shooting, but it just seems to take an age sometimes for the ball to leave the players foot. Something else though I don't like is the advantage rule.....it just doesn't work! Many many many times i've had an advantage played, to be clean through on goal, only to get pulled back a couple of seconds later for a free kick on the halfway line :x

If I didn't have so many stupid friends who have Fifa instead of PES, then I'd gladly have that on my 360 as well as PS3.

CEX still give £23 cash or £28 exchange for this at the moment (so could work out as a fairly cheap rental/trial if you're quick), although the value of this has got to drop soon with the amount of copies about in bundle deals etc.

(don't forget quidco, game reward points and possible £3off voucher if it's still valid)

I purchased FIFA 09 upon its release and hated it. I played Pro Ev 09 the other week and loved it! Don't know why the other poster stated that FIFA is more realistic coz I find Pro Ev to be much better.

Ask yourself this....when was the last time you had a goal line scramble on FIFA 09? Exactly!!

Take it down a difficulty level until you're up to speed with it. I was struggling as well so I knocked it down a level and when I was regularly scored 3, 4 or even 8 goals a game I levelled up again. Now I’m scoring and conceding in realistic measures.

I’ve been a PES fan for years but after the disappointment of PES2008 and the awesomeness of FIFA09 (in my opinion) I don’t feel the need to pick up a copy….yet! ;-)

I think this game will drop further in price in the run up to xmas but this is still a great price.

Good price but really is a terrible game. I played this for 10 minutes then sold it on ebay. The graphics are rubbish and the gameplay is very poor indeed.

The new Fifa is many many times better than this and its been reflected in sales and game reviews.

I think its time for Konami to call time on this series if this is the best they can do. Very poor indeed.

I had always been a Pro Evo addict up until last year. I never really like Fifa if I'm honest. It was just too fussy where as Pro Evo was just out and out fun especially in multiplayer. However with Pro Evo's online practically non existent last time round. I decided to give fifa a shot. I really got into last years game in the end and loved some of the new features (be a pro). This time around I bought fifa while on the £19.99 play offer and have been hooked ever since. I had always dreamt of a game where you could play as one player on the pitch and build your career by performing well, coming through the ranks and being signed by a top club and to my amazement fifa have done it. It's like two games in one. I haven't even touched the standard game as I am hooked on the Pro Seasons mode. It may not be perfect but I for me it has been worth the £20 alone.

I am in no way saying give Pro Evo a miss because it truly is, well was, the best 2 player football sim. I had so much fun with that game in the past but what gets me is that it really hasn't moved on enough and the one thing that was so wrong with it last year (online play) appears to be just as bad this time round. It really is not good enough.

It's a tough one and again this is just my opinion. Others comments have been very true but one thing i would say is be open minded. I guarantee if you give both games a good bit of playing time you will appreciate the positives in each. ;)

Yea, I think that FIFA has improved loads (it OBVIOUSLY has, and a large reason for that is that it essentially emulated Pro Evo of old) and PES has become worse ever since PES5 (which I think was the peak, gameplay was excellent). However, I think this year is unique as it is ther first time that it is worth owning both (as long as you don't buy them both at £40 each - now you can get the pair for £40). They are different in a lot of ways. It's not like one sucks and one rocks this year, which has usually been the case (with PES rocking!).

Overall I think Fifa is better this year, but I acquired PES to try it, and it isn't too bad, and that PES magic is still there, which I don't think Fifa can ever emulate, unless they could examine the entire PES engine.

Anyway, this is a decent price. I'm still reeling after I bought FIFA from Gamestation for £37.99 (preowned) and then saw Amazon had dropped it to £22 (new). Insane in the membrane...

Fifa seems very slow and unresponsive...and boring!! Becomes a chore to play!

Much prefer PES, without a shadow of a doubt.

isn't the 'be a legend' of pes 09 equivalent to 'be a pro' of fifa?:?

I agree with you on the aboev and personally FIFA is my prefernce this year, so much so that I bought FIFA for £25 from Morrisons and PES for £27 from Asda, however I got bored of PES very quickly when compared to FIFA so I sold PES to CEX for £25...not bad £2 for a 3 week rental.

You could be right mate. Haven't tried it out yet, is it any good? ;) The fifa version is great. I love the fact that you get offers at the end of the season to join bigger clubs and representing the national team is class....even if it is for Northern Ireland. Healy and I are forming a formidable partnership! lol :-D

Picked one of these up for PS3 in Game last night, hate going in that shop lol.

Really wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be! Quick search on evo-web to find a good patch and 10 minutes later I was playing with realistic kits, badges, sponsors etc....

If anything it's back to Pro Evo 5 but still a really good flowing game of football, better on PS3 than Xbox this year (Xbox normally better with most games I've played).

I was impressed with Fifa's Be a Pro this year but Pro Evo still beats it in a game 11v11.

So is the available in-store or online only?

Tempted to order one now but if it's available in-store I may as well just wait until the morning.
#28
I think a valid point is this:

I bought last year's PES on release for full price (£39.99). It then dropped A WEEK LATER to £19.99/£24.99.

They wonder why it's not sold well this time round?

Cos the schmucks that paid full price last time (to quote the Who) We won't get fooled again!

Got to agree there. I've got Fifa on XBox and PES09 on PS3. Still MUCH prefer the gameplay on PES over Fifa anyday, so many glitches in Fifa it's unreal. Will continue to play Fifa as I have many friends who have it and it can be good fun online with them - online tbh plays better than PES but the game overall simply isn't upto PES standards.

No - be a pro from fifa 08 is actually a rip off from winning eleven 9 'fantasista'.

Only hard core pro evo fans will know what i'm on about
