Very good price and with a Briggs engine you cant go wrong.
I still have my 25 year old Hayter with a 3.5HP Briggs and still starts every time.

The later range of Lawnmowers seem to come with a 5HP engine so some MIGHT find this underpowered but for a regular medium sized lawn this is ideal.
Forget it if you have a tiny garden. It'd be too much work.

Wikes have a similar one at £99 if you can find one in stock. It looks very similar, and has drive, except its black and yellow.

On the specs it looks very similar, except it has the B&S 475 Engine.

I'd advise you to check the warranty if that's important to you. I bought a Mountfield mower from B&Q a few years ago which was covered in "2 year warranty" stickers. When the engine started to play up I phoned to get it fixed and they kindly informed me that the engine was exlcluded from the warranty!

This one?
http://www.wickes.co.uk/Petrol-Tools/McCulloch-Titaniam-Petrol-Lawnmower/invt/194470
It appears to be an end of line offer - and no stock left online.
(but argos have them for £224.99
http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/7070772.htm )

Wickes do have stock of this one for £106.69
http://www.wickes.co.uk/Petrol-Tools/Flymo-LC400-Petrol-Lawnmower/invt/194469
Note it has no self drive, only 40cm cutting diameter and only 1 year's manufacturers warranty
(Edit: and a plastic body)

That one. Some stores had a few new ones delivered about 2 weeks ago, and they supplied the new model not the old one, like I said, if you can find one in stock.

Bought one of these from Karstadt when we lived in Germany 15 years ago. It still starts first time and I've only ever changed the spark plug once! Brilliant value for money, highly recommended - heat added.

I have a small garden (140 metres sq.) and need a petrol mower as it is away from any electrical source, would someone be so kind to tell me if this is suitable?

Yes this would be perfect

My friend just got one and is very disappointed - the minimum height for the cut is 3cm which being over an inch long is way too high for an ornamental lawn. Most mowers go to at least half an inch so be warned.

To be fair, it does say in the product details above that it cuts from 3-8cm
Rotary mowers don't cut as short as cylinder mowers generally, and you'd be lucky to obtain a petrol driven one that cuts as short as half an inch.

This McCulloch also cuts from 3 cm upwards

Looking at the more well known models, most of these Mountfields seem to start at 25mm or 30mm
http://www.mountfield-online.co.uk/section/3/1/petrolrotarymowers

As do the majority of these Haytors (except the smallest Spirit 41 model, which does cut as short as 13mm)

I think the same model is now at Aldi for £169.99 (it had a reduced sticker from £199 to this price), might be worth a lok for people. Aldi and lidl generally sell the same stuff and it has the briggs motor too.

I bought one today, I'll probably test it tomoz.

It's not exactly the same model.

The Aldi product does not have the fuel can, spare spark plug or spark plug spanner and only offers 5 ilo 6 cutting heights.

It does however have a mulching plug and a slightly larger collection box.

Thanks Premier, didn't get a chance today, tomorrow I'll test it. You're right not quite the same model, but still happy with my buy.

Cheers

Hi, This is now £149.99 (as of 20/07/09) for those that are interested in buying one from their nearest Lidl store. Are these still considered a good buy compared to what B&Q, Homebase and Wickes sell just out of interest?

Best Regards.

Is that at every store as my local hasn't had any for ages?
