Good idea, it's awful when people get pets they aren't prepared to look after properly :(

i honestly wish someone would just put him down. surely some kind of argument can be made along the lines of not wanting to prolong suffering, etc.

On a more topical note, these are pretty good as I went to a few with my daughter last time they were on. Unfortunately they were poorly advertised per store and although it was booked online, the store had no idea what I was talking about when I turned up.. luckily a manager did the exact right thing and stopped what they were doing to give an on the spot completely un-rushed talk with animal cuddles included :) just an FYI.
I agree.
Look after your pets - especially dogs...

I thought it was a rather witty retort, even the person with the cat avatar seemed to think so.
You do know this isn't Mumsnet?
Nah, not witty - more the kind of humour on par with the butcher who tells the vegetarian that what they need is a good steak. Ignorant and roll-of-the-eye-inducing oafishness, perhaps, but not witty. :p

How would the butcher know you are a vegetarian? How is it ignorant?

Sorry I don't see the parallels.

I pay about £9 odd for 300g of tetra prima (the red granules) off the 'bay' including delivery !! . Sooooo much cheaper than these smaller tubs , even with this deal I bet it works out at over triple the price. The same quantity of Tetra prima works out at £45.00 at Pets at home !!!
As nice as the tubs are , I cannot justify buying them , £4.50 for 30g Tetra Prima ffs , who pays that ???? .... just saying ;)
Can you me a link or seller please :)

Ebay number 391660616442 ;) ends in a day or so but add seller to fave or search for tetra prima - its the listings with the tub of prima as the picture choice of 300g and 600g , not sure if there are more choices but these are the ones I look at anyway.

Bought mine twice and got them in about 3 days each time. Probably get the 600g next time as even better value and you'd be surprised how much you get through.
Best of it is the use by date is 2019 so will last for ages , just reseal the bag after each use ;)

Does the free "bath and brush" session have to be for a pet? Sounds like another Christmas present sorted.

I'm afraid so. Pets only. The following are excluded:

1) The other half
2) mother in law
3) that guy on the tube

Does anyone know if the bath and brush includes any fur / claw clipping? If not, is it possible to add that on for a fee? Thanks!

I don't believe it does. But you can get definitely add nail and fur trimming and pay for that separately

Too strong flow for a siamese fighter fish, it would struggle to get to the top for air, or blow holes in its fins (plus the ceramics tear fighters fins) and this is a cold water tank. Fighters like 27c

Maybe fine for a solo siamese fighter fish, but most other fish will need more footprint to swim in

Hmm it's 12 inches (30cm) high and 12 inches (30cm) wide (I've seen one irl and they look quite big) is that really too small for fish?
Would you keep a small dog in a 10ft x 10ft cage permanently? Think of how many lengths of the fish it has to swim between in the widest points of that tank.

This is hardly the same, you need to walk a dog, it's hard to walk a fish. I was just going on the recommendation that you can have up to about 5 minnows in that size tank without being cruel, it seems what most people agree is fine for this tank, and is quoted on the manufacturers site, fish keeping and aquarium shop sites.
I just looked as I don't want to do anything to be cruel, as I said before I will probably get the bigger one anyway but this isn't really the same as looking after a dog.
Please don't be put off - I bought the Baby Biorb last Christmas for my son's bedroom and bought three small fish - they look like goldfish but are really small (sorry don't know the name of them). I was advised by Pets at Home that no more than 3 would be fine. In fact they were more than fine because a good few months later they actually had babies!! We then had no choice but to buy a bigger tank! The store were surprised because apparently this is quite uncommon because they need exactly the right environment (so were obviously happy with size!!), need to be a male and female and be at least 2 years old (both fish).

The 30l is 42 x 40 x 40 and the 15l is 32 x 30 x 30 ts double the capacity for extra 10cm which is not much space. I'd get some white cloud minnows, rosey minnow or some danios you can get some lovely ones.....

so basically you are taking your cat to the V E T in a box that smells of their own faeces? That fully deserves them krapping on your pillow.
Horrible idea, who wants to take a litter tray in the car or to the vets. More expensive than buying a cheap covered tray and a carrier (£15 each). I would not risk putting my cats off using their litter tray by teaching them tray = vets.

Life is always about compromise and opinion disguised as fact. Many vets are happy with bakers, many are not.Price and convenience will always be a factor and may well decide if you can afford to keep a dog. Better a dog whose health may, just may, be a little compromised than a dead dog in my view. Always check if the so called "expert" doesn't make his living out of selling a rival dog food (many do)
Feeding excess water to rats will also cause cancer, one needs to know far more about many finding and see peer reviews before giving them too much credence. Naturally the hypoallergenic children's group is looking for a blame figure, wouldn't we all, doesn't make it true though.
Beware of non expert "experts" and dogmatic statements (no pun intended) from any source, things are always more nuanced than that.
60 years of dog ownership, many years of feeding Bakers and dogs which live well beyond their usual span in good health is my experience. This I know, the rest is speculation.

Contains carcinogens.
And your expertise for saying this is? Or did you just read something on the net posted by someone who makes his living either selling a rival dog food or running an alarmist web site.
4 collies all of whom lived to over 15 ate this and other "crap" foods. What do you people think is a dogs natural diet, caviar?

My expertise? A dog owner that wants the best for his dogs.

E320 - has been found to be tumour-producing when fed to rats. In human studies it has been linked with urticaria, angioedema and asthma

E321 - banned for use in food in Japan, Romania, Sweden, and Australia. The US has barred it from being ...used in infant foods. So bad McDonalds have voluntarily eliminated it from their products.

E310 - Banned from children's foods in the US because it is thought to cause the blood disorder methemoglobinemia

E172 - Banned in Germany

E132 - Can cause skin sensitivity, a rash similar to nettle rash, itching, nausea, high blood pressure and breathing problems. One of the colours that the Hyperactive Children's Support Group recommends be eliminated from the diet of children. Banned in Norway.

E102 - TARTRAZINE - A trial on 76 children diagnosed as hyperactive, showed that tartrazine provoked abnormal behaviour patterns in 79% of them

E110 - Sunset Yellow has been found to damage kidneys and adrenals when fed to laboratory rats. It has also been found to be carcinogenic when fed to animals

E104 - One of the colours that the Hyperactive Children's Support Group recommends be eliminated from the diet of children. Banned in Australia, Japan, Norway and the United States.

E171 - Banned in Germany

E153 - Banned as a food additive in the United States of America. Suspected as a carcinogenic agent.

If you're happy with putting all that into your dogs then thats entirely your choice.

both my 2 dogs have always had bakers too. They're 12 and 8 and are never ill, only time at the vets is for jabs and vet agrees bakers is a good food for them. So I agree with you jongerry.

I'm the same.Have a Westie and been on bakers since pup.9 now never a worry with her.
I think the trouble with most dog foods in general is you don't know whats in it , when it says "animal derivatives" it can change from one week to the next and be different parts from different animals , there is also colourings and preservatives again not listed as what they are and why would a dog need colorings in there food ? , if you look at the Harringtons link above it tells you exactly whats in the food personally that's why i prefer so my dog gets the same food every week, i did start my puppy off on Pedigree as didn't know any different until someone mentioned to me
My girl must know that this is no good for her. She wouldn't go near her dish when I first tried her on this. If you're on a budget I recommend harringtons. I give my girl the turkey, veg 1 week & lamb, rice the following week. She gobbles it up straight away. Heat from me though as its still a deal nonetheless.

Great thanks. Booked for 4 kids for an hour.
I took my 6 year old to a workshop today after booking it yesterday. The staff didn't know it was happening and didn't have a set plan of what would happen during the 'workshop'. We were the only people there so a staff member took us to see a few animals. My Son was given a work sheet and some stickers before we left.

The website said
They also offer a fun filled set of activities that include products and pets for a hands on approach to pet care.
Goodness knows what that meant but there was no activities or 'products' :|

All in all... it wasn't anything special and I wouldn't call it a workshop, but it was free and my son got to hold a guinea pig.. so he was happy :D

Not really if u let them have a look round an see all the pets an stuff after

It's not useless it's to teach kids that it's not all fun and games with animals! It also teaches them about the animals and which animal would suit kids and what wouldn't!

I never said it was useless, I was replying to someone that did

Daft comment. Things might break once the tank is set up etc..
Please please make sure you get an appropriate fish for an aquarium this size. Fish put in tanks that are undersized live short unpleasant lives (body stops growing but internal organs keep on going). As andywa1k3r said, you should only be looking to put fish the size of neon tetras in this permanently. Don't be tempted to put goldfish in it, most common breeds grow surprisingly large.

That said, micro-aquarium this size can be used effectively as quarantine or birthing tanks.
