Philips BDP2700/05 Blu-ray and DVD player. HDMI Upscaling technology enhances standard DVDs to full 1080P high definition. Also plays back downloaded DIVX movies. Remote control batteries required 2 x AAA (included).

This item was posted 10 days ago and quickly went out of stock. Noticed last night it as available again so quickly ordered one to pick up at local store, which is due on the 22nd Nov.

As suggested in comment 29, Quidco discount applies. (8%?).

On Sun 21 Nov there were 3 instore at Barrow-in-Furness, if that helps anyone.

Been wanting a cheap but not too shabby looking player for our bedroom (so annoying not being able to watch BDs unless were in the lounge!) so this fits the bill perfectly

8% Quidco too!

Its relatively risk-free, return it to an Asda store if youre not happy with cosmetics or performance
(although "it doesnt play my ill-gotten-gains movies" isnt really a good reason, youd have to be a bit more creative!)
#14
seems ok, i wonder if you can plug a portable hard drive into the usb slot, it states usb flash memory

Early impressions (bearing in mind it's my first experience of bluray and I only got it yesterday):
Rather noisy and slow when first accessing a disk / starting a film from BluRay. (Haven't tried a dvd in it so not sure if that would be the same.) Possibly others can confirm whether that's all of them and I've not just got a dodgy one.
Once the film is running there's no problems whatsoever. Picture is fantastic, and the options all seem intuitive and work well.
Plays divx and mkv from usb flash drive perfectly well (though I've only tried one mkv and it was under 1gb).

My Sony BDP-S350 is also slow to load initially, I figure this is not uncommon given the nature of the media-size? The noise I guess is pretty lame, hopefully not too loud or it may be a deal breaker for me too!

Late, could you test a USB stick with some photos on? That would be an extra Brucie-Bonus if it displays images!

EDIT: Found the manual here: http://download.p4c.philips.com/files/b/bdp2700_05/bdp2700_05_pss_eng.pdf

Looks like it does! (would still appreciate confirmation of this though)

Cheers mate, at that price ive bought two for xmas presents. Got them delivered to store. Anyone encounted problems with this before?

I'm at work at the moment, so can't check stuff on it, but I'm certain it does display photos. When I put my usb stick in I think it had 4 view options: all media; films only; photos only; other.

More money spent... Grrrr

Heat added :)

Same.

19 Nov 2010 Asda 48.51 3.88 tracked

Still, brings it to less than £53, even better! Probably worth the OP adding the Quidco rate as its pretty decent!

code for 2500... but shd also work for 2700

1) With no disc in drive, bring the player out of standby.
2) press number keys "1389310"

Now enjoy a region free player.

Tested with a Macrovision protected Region 1 DVD and works

Great find thank you .
Was after one the other day when they were on offer but missed out
ordered now for collection insote on 25th.
Once again thanks for spotting

Very cheap for a Bluray player but in my experience, Philips optical units especially DVD players are some of the worst i've ever used in terms of reliability. Quite ironic seeing as they invented the CD player.

Maybe they've improved with their Bluray drives but I wouldn't touch Philips gear again.

I've got 2 philips dvd players in the family, never had any problems with either. I know in computers the optical unit is one of the more unreliable products (i have had 2 fail on me, but from other manufactures).
#36
The very early Philips lasers were unreliable and didn't last very long, but this improved dramatically - I have an old dvdr610 recorder which just goes on & on ....

Also, picture quality on Philips recorders has always been amongst the best
#37
I will never buy philips again . rubbish ! I had a philips dvd recorder and it went back to philips and they had it for 7 weeks and I had to get their management involved to find where it was and then to be told eh? we cant find it!
sold it on when i finally got it back.
I did open up the unit to see what they had done and I was amazed to see "replaced" stickers on nearly every part - power board , tuner board , dvd drive. Components had been replaced on main motherboard (badly , solder flux all over the place! )
Complete junk. would touch anything philips again ...... not even their lightbulbs!
