Philips as far as i am aware dont make laptops any more nor warrantie them. :( as i found out to my expense 6 months ago,
These are made for the high street stores by a taiwanese company usings the philips brand name. I point this out as i bought an philips x50 (higher spec that this item) from curry's and wanted to downgrade it to xp as it ran so badly on vista. voted cold for me can get better spec laptops for less with better support if needed.

All of these 'Philips' laptops (I think they're made by Twinhead) are fully supported in the UK by Techguys http://www.thetechguys.com/

Out of interest, what was the spec of the X50 you bought? It's just that the standard spec for the X50 is much lower than this laptop as it's a single-core CPU, 512MB RAM, 60GB HDD, etc. Was it a different spec that you got?

In my experience with the X55 my girlfriend's got their support has been fine, did they make it difficult and/or expensive for you to change to XP then? GF's came with XP and she's waiting for the SP1 for Vista to come out before trying to upgrade it.

Don't forget this comes with Vista Ultimate too, not just Home Premium, the CPU is a bit slow though, which would be my only worry with this.

Sorry my bad that should have read x59, problem for me was driver support (mainly lack of sata support), i did get around this tho by locating the hdd driver else where. as to the downgrade i used a spare version xp i had.

I did however reinstall vista and sell it on as i just wasnt happy with it:(

No bother mate, OK the X59 is a higher spec than this one. I suppose we're all looking for different things and my GF and a couple we know who both bought 'Philips' have been very happy with them, the couple I know both run Vista on them and haven't had any major problems.

Doesn't sound like Techguys were on the ball if they couldn't even get you a SATA driver, though!

Hope you're happy with what you have now, anyway!

Do you know what this weighs? If it is quite light then perhaps could have been posted as an UltraPortable may have gathered more heat.
The specs look ok for an ultraportable, price isn't that cheap though (IMHO).

Anyone know what the graphics are on this please?
Can't find the details anywhere

Cheers Chris

I am confident if this had been posted differently (as I learnt to my cost), then it would have got more heat...at 1.5kg this is a more portable laptop than a lot of the deals posted on here.

I have to agree as an ultraportable laptop it's an ideal size and weight.
But again your paying a premiun for the badge and its not even made by philips.

At £300 to £400 it might be worth it given it's spec's but just not for me.

At £300 this would have screamed through the roof, at £400 it would have got extremely hot (IMHO) at £599 I reckon it may have got some warmth rather than feeling like the arctic round here.
