I would say so, plus with a five year guarantee it's a bit of a bargain

Looks a bargain, Amazon is £670 and there is a review here: Techradar

and also at Trusted Reviews

Great. Thanks everyone. barijohn - Thanks for the link to reviews. Appreciated. I booked one now and delivery date is 25th Aug 2010.

a definite thumbs up from me, looks a great set

For picture quality, you can't go wrong with Philips sets, Pixel Plus engine is top notch.

Have been looking into philips tvs today having read lots of good things about them. Nowhere around here seems to sell them in store though so theres no way for me to go see what this tv looks like. It says on the site you can cancel under the distance selling regulation within 7 days but is that if the product is out of the box? Also can you then return it to the store for free or do you have to return it by delivery at cost?

And if anyone is still umming and arring have a look at WhatHiFi's review of the 32" version
http://www.whathifi.com/Review/Philips-32PFL7404/
This review is based on a cost of £650 for a 32", so an excellent set for £599 for a 42" with a 5 yr warranty. Heat added.

The Amazon link sends you to PRC who in fact are doing it for £599 anyway, but here you do get the 5yr guarantee and maybe a free Bluray player. Also don't forget Quidco at 3%, it all helps.

I'd assume they just haven't changed the image since normally it details free blu ray players in the product page
#17
Any one know which free Blu Ray Player comes with this?? Even more of bargain.........!
#18
No Freeview tuner?
#19
Just a word of caution for anybody looking to purchase this who plays a lot of console games - the Philips LCD's usually have the worst "lag" of any of the mainstream manufacturers ... so if that is what you plan to use it for maybe look for something else.;)

No Freeview tuner?
Yeah it has an inbuilt digital (freeview) tuner:

"Integrated Digital and Cable Tuner Aerial Input- 75 ohm coaxial (IEC75) , Video Playback- NTSC, SECAM, PAL , DVB- DVB-T MPEG4*, DVB-C MPEG4* Tuner bands-Hyperband, S-Channel, UHF, VHF"

Obviously no Freeview HD ... don't think Philips are even going to include that feature in their 2010 range.

I really wanted to purchase a new tv for around Christmas, do i get this or wait until the sales? Is there going to be anything to beat this do you think? Do i wait or not! I am a complete techno duffer help!
#22

Is that from experience or from something you've read? I read some people saying it was about 33-45ms which seems to be about average at the moment but that didnt state what the settings were on. Other people have said they havent really noticed any lag at all with game mode on.

It is something that concerns me a little because I have no idea what level of input lag my 4 year old JVC has so I don't know how much input lag I'd be sensitive to.

This is a return of a deal they had around christmas time, when I took it up. It's a really nice TV for the price especially with the M&S Warranty. Be careful with reviews though, the panel on this TV was changed without the model number changing. The electronics stayed the same but the panel was switched, I wouldnt want to comment on whether the newer panel (which will be in these ones now, and is what I have) is better, it seems to have different characteristics but isnt necessarily inferior. Anyway once configured the set looks really good, and is definitely the best for the price I could find when I was looking.

In response to the above there is a "game mode" for the TV which turns off video processing etc. I play Xbox 360 on it and havent noticed any lag at all, but then again I tend not to be very concious of input lag. Anyway have played Halo3 and Fifa alot on it and havent ever really been affected by the input lag. I think its a big generalisation to say "Philips have the worst input lag" because they have a big range with lots of different set of electronics and panels.

where can you see the free blu ray player?

Check the front page where they show all the TVs. On the specific page there is no mention. Obviously somebody has messed up here. One could always try it on though.

None I reckon as M+S have messed up.
#27
To back up Malderons comments, I have a Philips 3 year old LCD that plays PS3 with no lag whatsoever and would not hesitate to buy another Philips TV.

If your quick, telephone them and they will honour the Free Blu Ray Player with this: http://www.marksandspencer.com/Philips-BDP3000-Blu-Ray-Disc-player/dp/B002UV30TU?_encoding=UTF8&categoryNodeID=43992030&node=66025031&mnSBrand=core&ref=sr_1_3&qid=1282039266&sr=1-3&rh=&page=

This will only last as long as the free Blu Ray Player sticker stays on the picture!! Be quick!!

How does that work? Does it make it so you get the free player ordering online or does it mean you have to order by phone? Also what did you actually say to them?

Just called them and apparently it is an error on the website.
#31
so can anyone confirm is this worth it for £599 without the blu ray player or is just a slightly good deal?
#32
I actually phoned them and asked what model of Blu Ray Player was that came free with the TV. the lady had a look and said she could not see one so took her to the Philips TV items where the sticker shows up. She then went off the phone for a few mins and spoke to her Manager who said that the Blu Ray player sticker should have come off when it went on special offer but as it was advertised with a free blu ray player they would honour it. Yes you have to order over the phone and was advised this would only be honoured until they had corrected the website.
#33
well i just called and said they couldnt after speaking with the manager so i'd have to cancel the order
#34
Did you order over the phone or online?? There is nothing on their system saying about a free Blu Ray apart from the sticker on the front page picture that was left there accidently when the TV went on offer. You have to order over the phone. May be I was lucky as i was the first to notify them, but she told me that as long as it is advertised it will be honoured. Call them again and explain you only ordered it becuse of the free blu ray and as it is advertised as with one, they should honour it. M + S customer services are very good so it should be OK.

I called them about it and they tried to put me through to furniture but they were busy so I got put back to who I was speaking to first and she took my number and said they would call me back, still waiting though and I have to go to work at 2.30... oO
#36
Call them again now!!! When the sticker goes they will not honour it. Don't wait for them to call back.

Good Luck!!

Nope they won't honour it, I'd suspect maybe they only honoured it for a few people to start with but then the furniture team has become fully aware of it and stopped doing so.
