Philips 42PFL7404H Full HD LCD TV £629.00 @ M&S

A decent tv at a great price with a FREE 5 Year M&S Guarantee. Been looking at this one for a while and finally bought it. Thought Quidco was 2% but tracked already and coming in at 5% = £31.45.

So £597.55 taking Quidco into account.

God knows, the 7 and 9 series of Philips are the upper market ones, thas a really good price for a fantastic tv with imho one of the best scalers out there, Philips Pixel Plus technology its top notch.
#3
Not sure...cheapest I could find was £697 with standard warranty (1yr).
#4
Not a TV I'm familiar with, but this is definitely a cracking price - most places are around £720-730... AND this has a 5 year warranty. Seems hot, hot to me.
#5
any clue how long it will be on special offer for?
#6
Excellent TV for the price.

This was my no2 choice, I bought the Panasonic 42" G10 from M&S a few weeks ago.
#7
Philips TVs tend to hold their value and are higher RRPs than other brands on the market, the 7 and 9 series of Philips being better built than the 5 series too, this is a high quality 42" at a great price, especially with a 5 year warranty. 12 quid quidco too!

You may find 42" tvs cheaper, but I doubt of this quality with that length of warranty....a hot deal on a decent TV
#8
Not sure but usually with M&S untill they run out of stock, which at this price will not be long I expect.
#9
Is this better than the LG 42LH4000?

LG and Philips panels are manufactured as a joint venture, however I would personally recommend Philips scaling as being superior than LGs XD Engine, also there are three ranges to Philips TVs the 5, 7 and 9 series, this is a 7 series mid range set, I think so is LG though.

Look to see if you can find the LG for cheaper than this with a 5 year warranty!
#11
I think the LG one is too a mid range model. I think it's £529.99 from play.com. But without the necessary 5 year warranty.

I'm tempted. Do you think the price of these will drop in a couple of weeks?

don't know what i did there?

You can wait forever for prices to drop, maybe prices will when Freeview HD comes out, with regards 5 year warranty, I had a 7 series Philips in May 2007, it developed an intermittent fault just last October, I didn't have a 5 year warranty, fortunately I sourced a LVDS cable that was faulty that fixed the problem by replacing it myself (not an electronics engineer, but not afraid to tinker), so I think extended warranties can be good peace of mind depending on your competence.

If you intend pumping any SD footage at all through the TV then Philips are renowned for the pixel plus processing, and its improved even since the set I have (only a 42"1080i panel nearly 3 years ago), I was blown away with my set when I had it.

However my parents last year had an LG and I found they have improved their XG Engine immensely from when I owned an LG LCD (which went faulty a week after purchase and swapped for the Philips)

All down to cost I think, best bet is if you can get to a store like Makro where they have TVs on display to compare displays and actually use the remote controls etc.

Too late for that milarky. I just ordered one!

In two mind since i have 42" tv already shall i go for another or just get 32" which is ideally what i require

Excellent review, was just about to push the button and then I read that viewing angle performance is maybe a little poor? Anyone have any experience of this?

Mine's arriving today between 2-4pm, so I'll let you know if everything works well from all angles.

Does anyone recommend that I put up the tilting wall bracket and floating glass shelves before or after the tv arrives, as I'm not 100% sure how high I should mount the tv?
#20
so tempted... bought a philips modea range 26" over 3 yrs ago... one of the best picture quality i have seen... if only similar deals can be found in this range for 47" or over...
#21
decided it has to be 32" so need good offer for similar type set for that size

Thx re the angle thing as for height, sit in your normal seat measure from ground to eye level, mark this on the wall aspire to make this mark middle of screen in terms of height? That seems to make sense to me anyway?
#23
How do you know when it will be delivered? I had a confirmation e mail last night. But it just said it will be delivered before the 2nd of April. Which is a bit vague.
#24
What is the delivery charge?
#25
It was free delivery. Just don't know when it will be deilvered.

QuidCo tracked though, £31ish.

And the money has come out of my account so it can't be far from being delivered.

I thought that, but it's one of the "pluses" on another review.

It's like the 6th best LCD tv on the testfreaks website.

I've been looking for a new 42" lcd or led for the last two weeks as my old one broke down, my insurance shelled out £650..
Out of all the t.v 's Ive been looking at over that period this t.v seems to get the best consistent reviews..

:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:
#29
Has anyone got quidco to track, quidco website suggests only 2%?
#30
Ordered on the 16th and is being delivered on the 18th, they even called to arrange delivery...Top Service!

Good point re differences in reviews.. so I did some digging on 'tinternet and what do you know seems like phillips have controversially changed panels thus different reviews offer different results

LG panels vs Sharp panels... interesting LG panels seem to perform better, Sharp not so....?
#32
In regards to the Guarantee, anyone have any expereince with M&S customer service?

Hi hows the TV?
Can I ask please did you specify delivery time, I've just gone to order but was frustrated that despite a hyperlink within the order system advising that I could specify a delivery time (and pay for 24 hours delivery) I couldnt. I'm advised that it will take until the 6th April to deliver.
#34
Ordered mine yesterday morning.. Had a phone call an hour ago stating can they deliver it tomorrow.... Cool
#35
Just ordered.. now im getting post purchase nerves like "have I done the right thing?"... hoping that they might phone me to organise delivery soon, guess I am protected by distance selling regs, so if I dont like it, it'll go back but trying to be positive:thumbsup:
#36
Just ordered one for my dad also as was originally wanting a panny g15 but this is much cheaper and gets good reviews. he will have to buy a cheap second hand sky hd box to replace his sky+!

No. One of the things dropped to make it more affordable.
