Someone else has just added another thread with several cost codes for Dixons TVs. Still voted hot for this all the same as it was a good find and before the other thread.

Samsungs are better! Priced ok too.
#10
Prices for these should drop even further due to the 100Hz 9632 model
I'm waiting for that one. But they are very good sets, better than samsungs in my humble opinion

Mate you need to do your research! In less than a minute I found that TV cheaper by over £100!

Not exactly a "great deal" as you pointed out.

Great deal on actual Philips TV in question however, just wish I could find a review on it, looks like its a Dixons Exclusive.

And when you have all finished 'doing your research' remember to smile!

Hitachi is not good, is it?

You can get a 42 1080 tv anywhere for that price!
your paying for the fact that its ambilight! Which rules!

Voted hot

Sounds good, voted hot, anyone got this TV, does it do full 1080p/24fps without adding in extra frames? Cheers in advance.

NOT AS much as the backlight on a SAMMY
#24
Isn't this a better deal though.
(Unless you REALLY want the Ambilite, which I found to be distracting and just not natural)

It also has built in Freeview.

Use Pix25off (read carefully!!) to get price down to £689.00.

just ordered mine
for delivery on wednesday
many thanks op
heat will be added
tried a price match from both currys and pc world fosse park leicester
and no joy
so done the online dixons route lcd for £899.99
done quidco as well
fed up with only a few hd items running on my 3 and half year old plama
xbox 360 and pinnacle show center work fine at 1080i through component
just bought my 3rd upscaling dvd player still wont work HDMI to DVI
on my LG 42PZ45
so that was the final nail in the coffin
look like its a 42" LG plasma (non hd ) for the bedroom as its only worth about £300. and cost me £2300 about 3 and half years ago

Samsungs are cheap & tacky!
#29
Going through Egg & Quidco could knock another £72 off.

I think Philips used to use Alis panels and were similar to Hitachis but now they are basically using LG components and glass but their own picture processing designs. Someone pointed out in the AVforums that philips were using fairly low quality capacitors in their construction and long term reliability didn't look good so its worth considering getting an extended guarantee. Samsung plasmas on a reliability level are generally very good whether they compare to the performance of the Philips is another matter though but I would say the Samsungs are better made with greater long term reliability. Sony use Samsung as their manufacturer for a lot of their stuff. Although both korean Samsung are definitely seen as better than Lucky Goldstar in general for most hardware.

JUST THOUGHT ID ADD TO THE POST
amazon are now doing the 47" Philips 47PFL9632
which is 1080p and 100 hertz and has the ambi light
for only £999.99
the R.R.P. is around £1600
i have looked on line and the cant get one no cheaper than £1550
also as its less than £1000
the 5 year extented warranty is only £124.99 which includes accidental damage
i dont normally buy warranties but at that price thought it would be rude not to
the 42" 7932 i purchased the about 4 months ago developed a fault within 28 days so recieved a refund
kept getting white horizontal lines coming and going
so now purchased this one
and is a better range the 9 series (i.e. 9732)
and has a 5" bigger screen and is 100 hertz with ambilight
and only £100 dearer so am well chuffed
heres the link if anyone is interested
