I know its a stupid question to ask but whats the different in lcd and plasma? Is one better than the other/ one "last" longer than the other.
#9
its not a stupid question but answered endlessly here along with many others relevant questions

49,900p, but I think they prefer it in pounds.

49,900p

i mean i know its not 1080 so wat is it?
#16
It's 720p

aceshigh
It's 720p

in the specs it gives 1024x768. So it isnt quite 720p as it will have to do some scaling to get there.
Tho it will still give a good picture all the same :)
#18
This will be much better than an equilivent lcd at the same price.

I highly doubt you'll find any 42" 1080p Plasma for £500.
#23
First thing you need is a 1080p source. People keep banging on about 720p and 1080p a lot depends on how far away you are sitting. The nearer to the screen the better is the required resolution. So say a 720p viewed at 10 feet will look just as good as a 1080p at 5 feet just then the set at 10 feet needs to be physically bigger to look the same size.
#24
720p is fine for a 42" - recommended with 20/20 vision is to sit around 9 feet away. 1080p at this size is only worth it if you plan to sit 5 feet away, or 6-7 feet with ultra sharp eyesight.

I have this TV, I've had it for about a year now, I have never seen a better picture on any other Plasma or LCD at this size.

Brilliant TV..;-)

Voted Hot....

Viewing angles on Plasmas tend to be quoted lower than LCD, but they hold a better picture at those angles. LCD tends to get washed out and fades as soon as you start moving off centre, Plasma can hold an almost perfect picture at those quoted angles.
I can watch my Plasma from anywhere in the room and not notice any drop in picture quality, can't say the same for my LCD.

Totally agree. My LCD has a higher viewing angle than my plasma yet is completely washed out even looking from a 45 degree angle.

I think he means price match at JL with Dixons? Dixons is £479.10...but JL will not pricematch their on line prices...I tried it a few weeks ago...only instore.

Okay...serious question...this one or the Panasonic Viera TH37PX80B with 5 year warranty at JL? (now back in stock)
Sitting 9-10 feet from TV ...decisions decisions :)

10 feet from tv - 37inch will seem very small and even a 42inch will be smallish.

Yes, think I'll order one and pop to comet to see if it's okay :-D

you wont be able to tell much from a comet store unless you ask them to plug an HD source into it.
#33
If the official JL price drops within 30 days you`re also entitled to the money back,i`m getting 200 quid refunded because i asked for a pricematch on the samsung i bought from them just before the 30 days were up:thumbsup:.
This is me in scotland as well where they only pricematch a store within 8 miles, and item has to be has to be in stock at rival.
Turns out JL lowest price for a day was 800 so they matched that, with 5 yr warranty so can`t go wrong.
Rest of country is luckier where they may even match a web price so worth looking around after you buy it

I would disagree, I would prefer to see any TV I am planning to buy in none HD mode as most the stuff you are likely to be watching is boroadcast in none HD. The processing quality of a standard broadcast image is much more relevant than the processing of HD most of the time.

You misunderstood my point. To get an appreciation of the image quality and sound, you need to watch an HD source. Its pointless comparing SD sources in most high st stores as they split the signal so much that the picture looks pretty awful across the entire range.
#36
Well Thanks OP.

Great deal with lots of plusses for me.

5 year warranty is worth a lot of money and as i live in one of the most remote parts of the UK the fact they will deliver free is a massive bonus.

Heat and Rep added.

Both opinions noted:thumbsup:....I'll take my lappy with HDMI output and just ask if they'll let me run it......having said that it's too hot to argue:-D

Nah madmanc, I'd say Manchester is one of the most dire parts of the UK, but couldn't agre with calling it remote. :)

Well I didn't take the lappy and they only had the Phillips in and not the Panny to compare....but in all honesty apart from the ones which had the blueray playing on demo they all looked pants.
Now no idea what to do 1080or 720 bearing in mind if it's a 5 year warranty it will be staying for 5 years.
