The VOIP433 is a dual DECT phone, which allows you to make or take normal telephone calls on your landline as well as free or cheap calls through Windows Live Messenger. Access your contacts list simply by pressing the Messenger key.

Works only with Messenger v8

One warning -
I have this phone and if you intend to use it for VOIP (through MSN messenger) to call normal non-web phones you have to pay, which is normal, however you can ONLY pay by Diners Club or American Express.

If you don't have either of these, you're limited to calling other people with VOIP through MSN.

(Or use it as a normal phone).

Do you need to have the computer switched on to make the VOIP calls? or not?

Thanks in advance!

Indeed yes your computer needs to be on

So if you call someone through msn and they haven't got a VOIP phone, just speakers and a mic, you have to pay?

The phone works on two levels, as a standard cordless landline phone
and
as one of those USB headsets/handsets that you plug into the pc and it works like a USB headphone/microphone allowing you to make calls through software on the pc. So no wifi compatibility on this one I'm afraid.

So, if you have the phone's base unit plugged into a computer that is running Windows Live Messenger and make a messenger to messenger voice call (I think its referred to as a Computer Call) to one of your contacts, it will be free.

eh?
I don't know what you're asking here but the phone does work like a normal phone and doesn't require a PC...unless you want to make use of the calls to someone who has Windows Live Messenger on their PC. :)

Up to 29 pounds on the marketplace now - looks a reasonable phone even putting the VoIP part aside which given its limited functionality seems more of a bonus feature.
