1080p really not needed on a screen under 50". will make SD look awful as well

You are right and wrong, higher resolutions do make some SD broadcasts look worse than lower definition Tv's when you increase the screen size, but remember some people do actually watch HD content through Sky, and DVD's. The picture quality on my 42" Tosh with HD content is stunning, I know 720p is still classed as HD but why not futureproof your investment by going 1080p?

no at 46" bit of an odd size as most go for plasma at this

not true higher res wont downgrade quality, only a p-poor processor can do that
TBH its not that i could easily find a 46"lcd at cheaper (even if i cud be bothered looking)but lcd has its own issues on larger screens and large pixels would only make it look worse.
I paid £820 for my cheapo plasma at [email protected] last year and it beats the hell out of my m8's philips 42" lcd which are now available for bout £600
Given that i would pay the extra 8% approx for this

I found it cheaper by £50 at Bennets, I'll try and dig out the link. Here it is £798.96 delivered

I too would want 1080P at that size though, the larger the screen the more difference it makes to have a good feed.
