Is this a Hue TV, or does it just have nice lights?

Ambilight

I've got the PUS6561 the only difference is this has 2 sided ambilight where as the 6561 has three sided - I picked it up from the costco deal for £670 with a 5 year warranty.

After owning an ambilight TV, I don't think I could go back to a TV without it, picture quality is superb, whilst not having full 10 bit HDR it's a great TV for the price until OLED tech comes down anyway.

It can also link up to any other Philips hue stuff you have.

Do you think the 3 sided ambilight is worth the extra money?
#5
I thought so. The way I saw it was I got the 5 year warranty and the 3 sided ambilight for £150.

Have a look at some youtube videos, it's definitley more immersive than the 2 sided. Every person that comes over always mentions the ambilight on the tv.

I'm guessing these need to be right up against a wall for the ambilight to be an enhancement? my set up would place the TV about 2 feet from the wall... no good?

Mine's about a foot away from the wall and is bright, obviously the closer you have it the more effective, but they're pretty bright and can be adjusted in the settings on the tv.

So according to the heat on the deals, this Phillips is a better deal than this Hisense: http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/hisense-55-inch-m3300-4k-uhd-smart-led-tv-476-10-with-code-tv10-argos-2625677

Do you guys agree?

Paid £540 for this a few months ago from a deal on here.
Great set for the money, there's been a couple of firmware updates that have improved performance since then too in some areas.

The ambilight is pretty good, mine stays on all the time and not set to react to sound/video, makes the image pop a bit without being imposing, don't even notice it but when not on notice it isn't on so to speak.

Processing isn't top notch, very poor - however it is a step up from unbranded Hisense/Rubbish.

This is the 6401 not the 6501 so it does have various missing and downgraded features compared to the 65 models, such as a worse remote and slower refresh rate, as well as missing the top ambilight that the 6561 adds over the 6501/6551.

It doesn't have any HDR at all as far as I know, the wide gamut TVs start at the 7101 and the local dimming starts with the 7601.

All the 6401 tvs had hdr added with firmware update, the tv doesnt go that bright so don't expect any way near top hdr performance

The tv works great with 1080p/4k video/blu ray/ps4/xbox etc but the tv has a very poor upscaler for tv

I have the 43 inch in my office and the tv image is very poor will be even worse stretched to 55inch

This tv can have kodi loaded straight on to it from google play store which is it biggest + point, think only has bbc iPlayer, amazon and youtube rest of catch up services missing

They seem about the same in Brightness/Contrast etc
http://www.displayspecifications.com/en/comparison/9abe3a54

but the Ambilight is awesome, I have the 43" version.

Only 8GB. Ambilight is a bad idea.

bought one £449 unbelievable price for a 55" 4k hdr TV and if you have a argos card 12 bnpl think it's a pricing error

We bought it brand new because of that ambilight feature and 6 Months later the screen started flickering with a line coming across the screen itself and burn marks appeared on the edge of screen and on the frame of TV itself,it burnt due to overheating of LED light which is in the back of the TV (ambilight) directly opposite of the burnt mark on the actual TV screen and frame.Luckily TV was switched off when this was spotted as I dread to think what would happen if TV was left on and unattended, I would say a risk of fire quite likely.

I took pictures of it and went to Argos to report it, hoping I could get refund to buy different TV make as I don't think this ambilight version is safe and it gave us a proper scare .

Argos told me that I needed to contact Philips so I contacted Philips by phone explaining situation. I was told pictures I took and my info and details of what happened were forwarded to head office and they would investigate.
I received a phone call from Philips couple of days later stating that engineers had a look at the pictures I sent them and they came to conclusion that it is mechanical fault and they were putting blame on us!! That was all done over the picture rather than actually sending someone to collect TV and do proper investigation to make sure this model is actually safe!
I was fuming when I heard them saying that TV screen must have been touched/ pushed in when putting on stand or being carried and that caused for heat not be able to escape and burnt the screen due to overheating!
TV has been on the stand from day one safe and secure , never moved and we are not 2 year olds to mess with TV we spent a lot of money on.
It has 2 year warranty , but they refuse to refund or even to repair it!!!
I would not want replacement as I believe it should be recalled alltogether, but one thing I know, I will never buy any Philips brand again and I have contacted my credit card company to deal with this situation as I am protected by section 75 Consumer credit act and should receive refund soon through them, but customer services at Philips are appalling!
Be warned.

Quite worrying. I don't use the ambi light, I found it to be a bit gimmicky really.
