I've ordered one at Byker but someone else can have the reservation if they want, got confused and thought you could play an iPod through it.

Yes, 'this' is an anagram. Answer starts with 's'... :p

I like this radio thingy, looks nice, good price, but I'm struggling a bit to see the point in it. I just plug my phone into a socket. I'm sure I'm missing something , any info as to what makes this superior appreciated. Does it play the iPod, or just charge it?

Just charges it mate, therefore not bothered by it myself. Would happily pay a tenner extra if it could play the iPod cos i'd sooner buy a decent brand than a no-name.

Is this digital tuner - DAB?

Is this digital tuner - DAB?

No, FM only (would also like DAB)

Heat added. Managed to reserve one as I was actually looking for an alarm to stop the current cold mornings/cozy bed repeated snooze abuse with my phone alarm. Waking up late clutching my phone is going to cost me. But I wonder if it plays your mp3 player via the usb.

:giggle: I normally wake up holding my phone after snoozing it and falling back to sleep

Got mine, set it up tested it. Seems pretty good, charging my phone now although the SE k800i isn't listed :whistling: I read some reviews and there is an audible click before the alarm comes on, but it's made to wake me up so who cares. Tiny bit of dirt behind the screen in front of the clock, but I'll have the light off so no problem (and only visible way up close, I'm picky). Nice design, easyish to use, the alarm system is nice, weekdays, weekends or all week as options for the two alarms. So a lay in weekends and early weekdays for me. The gentle buzzer (more of a pleasant tone) lifts in volume at a nice rate. Apparently it will sound for 1/2 hr so don't leave it on early if you have neighbours and you go on holiday or you'll make enemies :) Managed 8 radio stations in an area of poor reception which also helps. Some rep going to OP for a good job. (except he's had enough rep from previous posts and I can't, someone add some for me please :) )

Does it have an always-on back-light, so you can see the time at night without having to press a button? Thanks.
#20
Aren’t they switching off analogue signals in the next few of years? :? I'm not suprised these radios are selling at this price.
#21
According to the article, the earliest is 2015, but that will only be if half the people use digital radio by 2013 - so if people buy this rather than a DAB one, they are helping to delay the switch-off.

Bought one yesterday - Needed a new alarm & the charging side of it is just a bonus.

Thinking about it the charging aspect saves wires being all over the shop (& falling behind bedside table when unplugged). Safer too `cos I often forget to unplug the charger which apparently is a bit dangerous.

If you count OFF as a brightness setting the light light has 4 brightness settings so yes you can have the back light on all the time.

Its a lot smaller than I imagined it would be which is good & generally looks pretty robust.

Only downside I can see is no battery back up but worse things happen at sea.

I tested it in my kitchen and then unplugged it and took it upstairs. It didn't go off at first and ran for a while longer. Given the charger aspect of it I wonder if it has a built in backup battery, but don't want to reset it all by trying. I was at work on time this morning btw.

Good news (I think).

I bit the bullet and unplugged it 10 mins ago. While it was unplugged the display went blank and it looked completely off.

I left it for about 4 minutes then put the power on again.

It came back to life with the time correct and having had kept up (i.e. had moved forward 4 minutes).

I dont think the alarm would have gone off without power but at least you wont have to reset the time etc every time you lose power

Must be some sort of internal backup battery.

Can anyone tell me if there is a gentle wake up facility with the radio and does it charge an iphone?
