This is probably useful for the few people, but good price consider it probably cost that much just to deliver the box alone.

Product description:

Add to your ProGamer or Starter system
Air and vibration synch with the game and bring it literally into the room.

Air and vibration to max your game
Up to 5000 RPM variable speed fans and rumble pad
Every impact, kick or shot is felt as gamers play with the game-activated wrist-rumble pad. Speed and movement are realistically simulated by two desk fans. Combined with the light and sound effects, it creates an incredibly intense gaming experience.

Connect, install and play
Easy plug in the wall washer
To connect the extension pack components to your Starter and ProGamer kits

Extends Starter and ProGamer kits
Two fans and a rumbler to add air and vibration effects to Starter and ProGamer kits

The premium kit is also available for £69.30, which includes the 2.1 speakers and this extension kit and (I think) a couple of games.

Good price for these, though not all games are supported, and hardly have support for modern day games. Was thinking of writing in support for COD:BO a while back, but the SDK is in C++ (don't know at current), so couldn't be bothered. Might do one for the next IW version of COD though. There's a good community for this, despite Philip hardly updating it any longer though.

the drivers are all messed up at the mo, new games don't works with the lights and the definitely don't work with the rumble and fans.

Typical of Philips, lazy with their drivers update. I've learnt this when I had other Philips product in the past, good products, but slow (or none) driver updates.

I have the starters kit installed on Windows 7 atm (apparently ppl reported problems with SP1) and only have VLC to work with it playing movies, can't get my game (ETQW) to work with this though even though there is a patch for it.

Here's the link for the latest driver (here)

To those with the starter kits, are you upgrading? I have the starter pack and am tempted to upgrade. Is the consensus of opinion to go with it or leave it?

Not sure if this helps, more of a personal opinion. I was interested in the premium kit, but since I have a decent 5.1 set up, just thought the speakers with the premium kit wasn't worth it, hence I bought a 2nd hand starter kit, plus the extension kit, for a total of £38 :).

check the forum, they won't work and there is no fix for them to work with many games. There are beta drivers for the lights but even they don't work with dx11 (yet)

Sorry, I misunderstood you thinking whether you want to upgrade to Premium kit or not. For me, the extension kit would be nice "if it works" :D, but can't complain for a tenner. Like I said, the delivery cost will probably cost that much, the box is huge!! :D

I have the lights but won't be buying this as

a) it's yet more clutter for my desk
b) very few games are supported
c) I am not convinced the effect will that good. Your wrist rumbling?

It's very cheap though so I will probably vote hot. Just that for me it would probably not be used very often and end up as useless clutter.

Maybe we can set the cooling fans to always on in the summer for that extra bit of aircon whilst gaming?
#10
I want one of those Dyson airblade fans. Just got to wait for an incredible deal as the £200 price tag is just a tad steep.

Hahahaa!! You've beat me to it, I was going to say that. Got mine installed and works a treat blasting the odd occassion of cool air in my face when I need to. A tenner for a couple of "intelligent" fans...that will do :). Note, the fans are a bit noisey though.
#12
Now I have played with it, I might even get another set in case these ever breaks. Works nicely as a face cooler :D.
#13
OK, just tested the set with my game - ETQW, works a treat, air blows while in vehicle, running and heavy weapons. The rumble bar works when on a vehicle, definitely a tenner well spent :p.

So how does it connect up? To another USB? Or into the base lighting system? Does this need a separate power supply?

Hi mate, nope, there's 3 DIN type sockets already available in the centre console/light which you just plug in, so no separate power supply required.
#16
I may get it just for system completeness and for some extra Summer cooling.
#17
Last question is it easy to switch off the fans and the rumble from the ambx software? For example, if I just wanted to keep the lights on but turn the fans/rumble off is that possible? Even for enabled games?
#18
Just ordered one and gave into temptation. Rare games do work with it, like Doom 3 and Far Cry 2, but bought mostly for summer cooling. Thanks, Eden.

Sorry mate, been so busy at work, didn't check the message.

You can go to amBx control panel and select a 'scene', there are about about 6 or 7 preset ones, some will have light only, fan only, or both. I think you can create your own as well as there are empty slots. I've just not had any time to mess around with it atm, but simply uses some of the presets and works a treat.
The fans are a bit noisey, but definitely a bonus for the cool air in your face during the Summer, but the added bonus of working in my game is a plus point. Well pleased with this, especially for a tenner :p.

Alls well that ends well. Fans and rumblepad installed nicely. Programmed the fans to switch on or off for 20 minutes at a time on the fly. Will be nice in the summer. Will try out some of the compatible games e.g. could do with another run through of Doom 3. Happy with my purchase.

Sweet. And thanks for your advice. Got my fans switching on and off as an event on Windows switching. Duration 20 mins. It was easy when I figured it out. Windows switch then it goes on (set for 20 mins), Windows switch then it goes off. The box was massive and quality. You can tell it used to cost a lot more. It would have cost Play £s to send it.
