In case I'm being thick, this is just the lights yeah? And it only works on a PC, I can't stick it in my living room or the xbox?
#3
:?Does anyone have one of these? sounds interesting
#4
If this had worked with 360 or PS3 I would have snapped it instantly but looks like only works with PC... I have only got a laptop...

Very good price though... My mate tells me that this was featured on Gadget show... Anyone seen that episode?
#5
i only have laptop if it had controls on it i would have got one but i think you need a pc
#6
" percent or more cash back via quidco or topcashback
#7
Isnt the problem with these that the game has to support it before it works properly? There arent many either last time I checked.
#8
Next best price is from Big pockets etc. around £60 delivered.
#9
Check teh AMBX froum and wiki to see if you favourite stuff is supported. Lots of stuff is but sadly S.T.A.L.K.E.R is not :(

This is REAL hot. I paid around £34 for this last week from iBood but am starting to regret not waiting now because they STILL haven't dispatched it.
But when these first came out, the starter retailed at around £130, and the Premium kit was around £240 if I remember rightly. Up until the iBood deal, the cheapest you'd get these were for around £65 + del...

I'd personally suggest just getting the starter even if the premium comes down too...because the fans/vibration are supported by VERY FEW games, and most people don't need speakers (i have a 600w set connected to my PC so no need!). It might even be wise to get 2 of these because it intensify's the lighting...

The lights also work with movies and audio (possibly with the help of a visualization, though).

thanks for that:thumbsup:

could you answer us a question though, do you need to have a pc???
#12
What a useless gimmick. Remind me of the Philips Ambilight 'mood changing' lights.

Very good reason why they only sold 5 of these at the RRP.....

It's the lighting kit with stereo (2.0? Unless the lighting box is a sub as well, i'm not certain on that one) speakers. And yes, it's PC only.

You're calling them a gimmick without even using them? Gotta love that. Reviews say they work well, people that own them rave about them but of course you know better. You with all of your infinite wisdom :whistling:

Overpriced at RRP? Yes. I don't think anyone ever tried to argue against that. However at £30 it's a brilliant bargain for a pretty good bit of kit. I doubt you'd even find a better pair of speakers for that price, never mind the speakers with a lighting kit.
#14
Gah, it does look pretty!

It's good for what they are, just wish I could justify getting them...
#15
Ohh, those two side units are lights rather than speakers :? Less of a deal than i thought then. Still, a good buy for the lighting kit.

Review of the Premium Kit here;

http://www.trustedreviews.com/multimedia/review/2008/08/22/Philips-amBX-SGC5103BD-Premium-Kit/p1

The technology really does work to produce a more immersive gaming experience, but only a few games currently make the best use of it. Still, with better software support amBX could be an interesting addition to the PC gamer's arsenal.

Looks like the whole lot can be had for £85 though;

Think i'm pretty sold on the lights (already got decent speakers) and i've heard mixed reports on the fans (some have told me they're great, others have said they're crap). The rumble strip seems to be universally reputed as being utter crap.

Looking at videos on Youtube some stuff is quite impressive and it's really tempting me to buy!

Shows how much you know about the Ambilights. They brighten up the rear of the TV so your eyes aren't strained so much - pretty simple to understand, a lot just put light-strips behind their current sets instead.
#18
Is it possible to have two of these running on one pc?
Its a shame they didnt make one kit thats compatible with consoles and pc, from their site it says they are releasing a separate kit for ps3.
Also i just read this review on amazon, "I got this set last year (2007) and I'm REALLY dissapointed. If you use a x64 operating system, don't even bother buying them: they won't work."

I know its old but can anyone confirm if this problem has been solved or not.
#19
Nice one:thumbsup: Orded
#20
Why? Just Why? Hmm I really want some disco lighting for my games! Really don't see the point or the need for anyone to onw these?!

Also, useless when playing games in the day presumably? Just goes to show some people will buy anything!

This ones my favourite:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XptNJNHkiWA&feature=related

My only concern is I have light brown wood behind my table. I'm tempted to find some cheap posters and then stuck them on the wall in reverse! :D

satchef: As I said earlier, the premium kit really is a waste of money. Alright, the speakers are decent (albeit only 2.1), but the fan/rumble features are supported in very few games and are supposedly annoying after a while. They'll just become dust gatherers in no time IMO.

As far as I know the lights can be supported in any opengl game, don't quote me on it though! Also it'll work with any movie (which is why I want it really). Personally, I think it'd make more sense to buy 2 starter kits.

Wow that video looks like he's got to crossing lights next to his telly just flashing! hardly blends in does it? How many fires have you seen the rhythmically glow?! Tosh

Firstly its a gimmick , you do not need this to play games , its serves no real pupose and no matter what you can say it doesnt enhance the game in anyway , your probably more likely to have an epileptic fit or get even worse eye strain as your eyes will constantly flick between the monitor and the light source , add into that that the demos that ive seen in shop were totally "out" ie the colours on screen ie sky didnt match the surrounding colours ie red and orange or green jungle was giving off white and red.

Lets be honest if they were that good , they wouldnt be discounted.

Voted hot on the price as its probably the cheapest but its just yet another pointless pc addon that in reality does very little.
#23
My brother got one of these @ Christmas 2008, and paid around £130 for it.

Ignore the negative banter... They are awesome!

Great for games, movies, music and for generally changing the mood of your room!

There may also be support for PS3 / xbox in the future for these as they're USB, although this is only speculation from other sites and nothing officially announced as yet.

No drivers/support yet for Windows 7 though.

Cost has always put me off in the past but @ this bargain price just ordered without hesitation!
#24
White walls around the area you're using these enhance their effectiveness...

Anyone kno any good deals for white emulsion? ;o)

It's being discounted because a new model is coming out, same with anything really.

No, it's not. Hence why it's a "Hot Deal", big discount, "Hot Deal". HotUKDeals. You see? Or do you still not get it?

To be flat about it, can't you go and Troll somewhere else? While you're entitled to your opinion you seem to think you are absolutely correct, which is bizarre. The idea that you know this kit is rubbish in spite of reports to the contrary from people who actually USE it seems bizarre to me. Either you're talking drivel or you're another one of these omnipotent "Gods" of the tech world who are capable of judging a product on site better than others can in practice

Does anyone know how long does it takes The Hut to ship and deliver and who do they use to courier the delivery?
#30
Thanks mamboboy, rep added.

This item is also available at Zavvi for £29.99. I'll sit back and await delivery notification for now though :)

Bit rich that you were just harping on about "infinite wisdom" to someone else, when you don't even know what you're talking about

I already have a Philips ambilight TV and its amazing, I also have Call of Duty 4 and just seen this youtube video

I already have decent speakers so this starter kit is totally a must after seeing this.

I never claimed to, I claimed that the people who have used this kit know what they are talking about ;) I know no more about it than most.
#35
Anyone got theirs yet?
#36
I phoned thehut today and they said that stock was being shipped out for Monday delivery, I hoped to have it for the weekend but it does say usually dispatched within 3 days so fair enough really.
#37
Mine won't ship until mid of next week. I guess that's probably about right if stock is assigned on a first-come-first-serve and customers have been buying them out each day until now.
#38
Mine has changed to 'Awaiting dispatch' as of today. Ordered on the 16th.
#39
Good news, nidawson :)

Who do they ship with? I've noticed mine has shipped too, but there's no shipping information, no carrier name, nothing.

Still, The Hut seem like a good value place to shop with good enough service. I just wonder who they use for shipping.
#40
Well mine has changed to dispatched so I wait for delivery.
I think they use the royal mail Ist class delivery so it could be tomorrow or next week lol
