It's a very good price but there must be some real mugs out there to pay 100 quid plus for it!

It's to connect a camcorder so you can record to DVDR off of it.

Do the camcorders have to have iLink or just mass storage capabilities? as in can you connect a firewire harddrive to it?

looking at the list of connectors, from camcorder it would be i-link or Audio L/R in, CVBS in (red, white, yellow phono plugs).

I think it would be unlikely to support firewire HDDs but I could be wrong.

Please can some one confirm the following:-

Can I copy my VHS video to DVD's using this device

Can I transfer the footage from my Digital Video Sony Camcorder to DVD

Can I copy my films in my SKY + to DVD

Does graded mean less warranty/guarantee???

Is there something which does all the above which is better or cheaper??

Sorry for all the points, but have been looking into for a week or so and got lost in all the jargon/technical stuff:thinking:

I'm soooo tempted, if only it had a usb port :(
Is there anyway of connectiong a harddrive to this?

I may be wrong, but I think a firewire hard drive should connect through the i-link, which is a mini firewire port. Whether the player could see the filesystem or not, I don't know.

The iLink/Firewire will only take a streaming DV signal, so a hard disk will not work as this requires it to view the file system.

Thanks ma6jrp, I was sailing in uncharted waters there :giggle:

Yes via scart, but not any protected with macrovision eg purchased film VHS's. your own recorded tapes will be fine.

Can I transfer the footage from my Digital Video Sony Camcorder to DVD
as long as it has i-link or the white, red, yellow output leads the yes

All DV Cams will have DV out/i Link/Firewire.
Some have DV in, for recording back to tape - tape used to be the cheapest storage format, but the price of harddrives now makes this uneccesary.

I think it's unlikely you could connect a drive to this, but could be wrong.

Just a word of advice, Philips have a high fail rate on these items, no doubt the reason for there being so many refurb units available.;-)
#29
Just ordered thanksto all heat and rep just about to be given.

Well if the unit fails they will have to sort it out under warranty and I suppose will most probably send a new one !!!!!! so cant really lose?
#30
stock level just increased no need to rush .....
#31
and now dropped to 35, either a glitch or too man people buying............................the power of HDUK:roll:

The fact that it's Philips would be one reason but this particular one looks good and as it plays DivX as well even better.

Is Philips no good? You have me worried now as I just spent £500 on one of their LCD TV's...which so far I'm really pleased with :P

Does I need to re-enter the hack code everytime I insert a different regioned disc or is it a one time hack?
