We are looking for a hi-fi like this with ipod dock, and I saw this a couple of weeks ago priced at £67 at Asda direct.

Anyone have this/using it who can comment on the sound quality?

While we dont want something too loud, what kind of sounds does the 3W RMS output produce?

About 2 more than 1 Watt RMS... it's actually 6 watts RMS, i would not expect much to be honest, iit's hard to quantify really. it will be fine to fill up a small bedroom or computer room/office.

You definately wont have the neighbours knocking on the door

Nice looking system shame about the power. Voted HOT.

I'd like to get this but replace the speakers with my own. Are the speakers rigidly attached? The ones I want to use just use regular cable, stripped of the plastic casing at both ends.

I wouldn't expect much more quailty, you may even loose some.

Your speakers will still be pwered off the 6watt amp

If you go to a big Asda store then usually these are on display so just take your ipod and listen to it there?

" … bowers and wilkinson zeppelin … " is that Count von Zep or Led Zep, one wonders….
For the wonderers, 6 watt RMS is merely the max output but for "quality", the distortion -spectrum-spec should be quantifed/mentioned. Sound without much bass and at "before discernable distortion volume" will beguile the uninitiated or the "couldn't care less" for most mid-to-highish frequency sound all sound roughly the same. The only way to compare speakers is through direct comparison. The main problem with this beguiling Philips is the power output - since a "subwoofer" is mentioned, at "6 Watt RMS", you can expect this to be another fool the "couldn't care less" experts through fancy looking "design". At £100, the buyer category is called, "Born to die". At £50 and the category is, "Born to be fooled". At 25 Squids, the buying category is, "Throw it away after 3 years and do the sweatshop slaves a humanitarian favour".

I'm waiting for this to come back down to £89.99 like it did last year... http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/276086/sony-cmt-bx70dbi-dab-micro-system-w
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/419ABtNSG3L._SL500_AA280_.jpg

with Ipod dock, DAB and 50W RMS sound output (2x25w) £119 at Amazon at the mo.

...A shame I'll be ditching the speakers... I just want the main unit to power my 50W ceiling mounted speakers in my new kick-ass kitchen!

Was in Asda tonight for general shopping and thought I'd have a look and see if they had this hi-fi.... they didn't, but they did have a very similar looking one, with DAB but without the Ipod dock - £67... seemed very similar spec to this one, same power output as well.

Edit: It was this one...

£77 online, but was definitely £67 instore.
