CD player, radio, timer, alarm function and ipod dock for £30.

Description from the retailer:

The Philips DC146 mini system gives you a CD player, radio, timer alarm and an iPod dock - all for less than £30. How's that for value!

With its fulsome spec and compact dimensions, the Philips DC146 is ideal for a bedroom, kitchen or other second space. From the top down, first you'll find a full function CD player. With CD-RW playback, 20 track programming, repeat and shuffle play, this CD player gives full playback flexibility. Next up is the built-in tuner radio and timer control. Both FM and MW wavebands are onboard and you can store your favourite stations in one of the 20 presets. The timer system includes a clock, sleep timer, radio alarm and CD alarm - everything you need from a bedside or kitchen system. The blue, backlit display is also especially restful if it's to be placed by your bedside.

Moving down the unit, you'll find an amplifier with Dynamic Bass Boost for enhanced richness of sound. There's also both a headphone socket for private listening and a 3.5mm line input for plugging in another source. If all this wasn't enough for your fifty quid, the DC146 also throws in an iPod dock! Play and charge your iPod through the built-in cradle and control the basic functions via the Philips remote control.

Wrapping off this tempting package is a pair of separate speakers. A bass reflex design gives these speakers added punch, especially at lower volumes. With its full remote control and slick panel layout, accessing the DC146's functions is easy. Despite its low price, it's not a bad looker either.

So, for less than the cost of a tank of petrol in a Mini you can get all this. What's not to like!

EPIC FAIL

Amazon is actually more expensive because of the £6.99 delivery.

Whereas you can collect in store at Richer Sounds.
#6
Good find! Heat added. Question though, does anyone know if you can remove the ipod dock without breaking it?
#7
I'm quite sure the iPod dock at the bottom slides in.
#8
Thanks I believe it does, just read it on a review. Will check if Richer Sounds have any tomorrow, if not will just order from Amazon £37 ain't too bad, I'm guessing they should be brand new?

ETA: Found out it is brand new.

yep, a bit ironic really selling the cheapest music system (I won't call it a HiFi) when a few years ago they poo poo'd the idea of these cheap mini systems.
#14
there whole selling strategy was based round avoiding cheaper systems they used to have this sort of thing to listen to and compare with proper systems, times a changing i guess

boo, that stinks... thanks for the info.
if using with an ipod, looks like a great deal. has overall good reviews on argos and amazon.

It is compatible with the iphone 4.

I have one of these and an iphone 4 and it works perfectly.

You get a message on the iphone when you plug it in saying "This device is not supported...." but it then goes on to work fine once you've dismissed the message.

EDIT: Mine may be a slightly different model as it had DAB radio whereas the one in RS doesn't seem to have.

Think Richer Sounds say that seperates are best but they stock a few combi-systems - normally its along the lines of "seperates are best but this one isnt bad". I suspect this one is more a case of "at this price you cant complain".

Thanks OP, got the last one in Nottingham today. All set-up, and in use as a bedside alarm clock, I like the time display, not too bright.

It's not hi-fidelity, no individual Bass/Treble controls, only Dynamic Bass Boost (ahem) but does the basics ok, not going to rattle the ornaments but is listenable and for £30 for an ipod dock, CD, FM radio and Aux input will do me fine.

Hope this helps anyone thinking of purchasing

Meant to quote not like sorry! It does charge whilst playing but don't know abut aeroplane mode or the beeping or compatibility with iphone 4 as we have an ipod on ours.
