I've added the price and retailer name to the title :)

Thank you, I'm new to this.
This offer seem to be a great deal.
Hdmi lead available from LiDL for £4.99 soon.

Just so people know who dont realise this is NOT a HD DVD player. Its upscales, which is the equivalent on Blurring. (I know its more than that technically but without going into details)

Would be interesting to see what it does with a HD DivX file through the HDMI Output. Otherwise its just a waste of your HDMI port.

This is a very good deal for a highly specified Div X/DVD player.

>To James

I think most people realise this is not an HD DVD player, being 10x less expensive than the cheapest stand-alone player. And yes, what it does is to upscale DVD resolution (576p) to 720p and 1080i resolutions. However, the quality of upscaling may be better than some cheaper televisions. There are some notorious televisions that make a hash out of upscaling SD signals and this is a cheap solution.

Oh, and this player does not play HD DivX, I'm afraid. It plays standard DivX and upscaleds it. Although it plays DivX6 with packed bitstreams. Apparently very well.

Check out this player at www.avforums.com - it gets rave reviews.

Oh, and it has a USB port so you can load your movies onto USB drive to save having to burn your movies onto CD every time.

Make no bones about it - this player is a steal at this price!

That's exactly what i would do.:)
#14
>does this thing do what xboxes dont?

It upscales and has HDMI output.

But it doesn't do all the other cool things an Xbox can do with the proper persuasion.

It's not an either/or situation. There's ALWAYS room for another gadget. Oh yes...
#15
I bought one last week at 49.99 too!

It's good though.
#16
33.49??? how can you afford not to buy this!!!
#17
says £69.99 now
#18
in store
?
you just went there?
#19
sorry blind as a bat, just going out the door
#20
I just phoned my local store in Middlesbrough they have 8 left but they assure me the price is £49.99:-(
#21
op was changed to 33.49...maybe a display model?
#22
End of line, they want to get rid of them asap. New model is coming out in April to replace this.
#23
I've got a reciept for it from Redditch. They had 3 in stock at the same price, it had had a price drop recently.
#24
Probably a stupid question but is it worth having an upscaling DVD player if your TV/Plasma does it anyway? I bought the Panasonic TH-42PX60 over xmas (thanks to this site!) and I'm just wondering if it's worth picking this up, what do you technical guys think? :)
#25
Pretty certain that the Panasonic TH-42PX60 doesn't upscale , but stand to be corrected. I've got one and can't find any reference to this in the manuals. It's a HD TV, but needs a HD source or upscaling player like this one to benefit.

On another note, my son is a Sainsbury's manager in Scotland. he's checked the price and it is definitely £49.99, so the Redditch ones must be a pricing error. He had one left and gets 15% off so I had that one anyway at £42.49......

See my post above. The price is definitely £49.99. I should query this with your local store if they are still saying £69.99. It is only available at the lower price in-store and if in stock. It's the higher price on the website, so you may have been quoted this figure if they needed to order it in.
#30
So this aint £33.49? :s
#31
I just bought 3 for £33.49 from the Sainsbury's in Wigan, but the store in Bolton told me theyre £49.99 for sure, so I'm not sure what is going on with the prices.
#32
What about the Lidl one that's out on Thursday? At £29.99 wouldnt this be a better buy?
#33
This has HD upscaling with HDMi. Lidl don't.
#34
I swapped a poor performing LG player for this and I have not looked back!
Multi Region hack available, Upscales very well and Divx is great.
I use a USB pen to transfer files across and works a treat.
I think I remember seeing on AVForums about using a external hard drive in the USB port as well.

Either way, a cracking buy!
#35
1 left in Sainsburys Ipswich, marked at £49.99 & scanned at £49.99. No HDMI 99p cables either :(
#36

Yh I know.. was just making sure people don't buy it by mistake..

That USB feature is worth it alone! I've never seen that before. Shame about HD DivX though :(

Welcome to HotUKDeals bigf and marvel. Thanks for the pointer bigf :)

I have this DVD player and can highly recommend it - it plays anything I throw at it, gives good picture and sound, upscales for my HD TV and will play DivX, MP4, MP3 etc straight from a memory stick/Hard Drive (which plugs into the USB port at the front of the player). The specs/manual don't mention playing video files from the USB port, but I can confirm that this feature does work well.
