Philips DVP3120 (DVD player) £19.95

Branded DVD player for the price of supermarket ones.

If you're looking for a top value DVD player, then don't go to the supermarket, come and see the DVD experts at Richer Sounds!

With the latest DVD player software, the Philips DVP3120 is an excellent example of the exponential improvement in quality you get from a top-brand player such as this over the cheaper, but far less convincing "no-names". This Philips DVD player may be frill free, but where it matters - i.e. in terms of picture quality - the DVP3120 punches well above its weight. Thanks to a 12-bit/108MHz video processor, images are sharp and detailed. You can expect the sort of performance you'd usually expect from a much more expensive DVD player. For an even better video performance, Philips has equipped the DVD3120 with Progressive Scan and a component output.

Seeing as though this DVD player comes from the inventors of CD, you'd expect it to sound good; and it does. Whether you're using the sound from your TV, or outputting the DVP3120 through a home cinema via the digital coaxial, the 192kHz/24-bit audio DAC produces a sound quality that blows away lesser DVD players.

Yeah watch out no Divx player. I got one from Amazon a while back, not a philips but it plays all and is the same price so you can find better deals for this price.

I need a cheap player that plays Divx for my daughter,s bedroom so although this sounds good it has no Divx playback!

If you do want to watch downloaded .avi files (but not divx) then you can get the Philips 5960 instead.

It's about £40 from Amazon, and lets you plug an external hard disc, full of your TV shows/movies into the USB slot on the front of the DVD player. Very cool. That, plus HDMI output make it a better choice, if you do want slightly more than a standard £20 DVD player.

Oh, and a word of warning about Philips DVD players... their remote control sensors are terrible. Really. You will find yourself getting up, crouching and pointing the remotes at the DVD players like a pensioner.

That aside, they're fab DVD players.

Anyone spot the deliberate mistake?:-D

produces a sound quality that blows away lesser DVD players

How much lesser than £20 do you want to go? It should say blows away more expensive competition in the sound stakes:)

Not voting either way but I got one of these from Amazon and its only lasted about a half a dozen plays :(

Much better off buying the 5960 as stated by others.

Yeah, it's 20 quid more, but it plays everything you throw at it, bar WMV files, and has the very useful benefits of Upscaling to 720p/1080i via HDMI, a usb port you can play movies through, and an RGB scart...

Cheapest place I can find 5960 is Dixons for £39.99

Yeah, that makes it 20 notes more as stated, and worth it too.
