what's the feedback on it like on AV?
I am looking for an upscaling/HDMI mutli-region player - so if the feedback's good, this could be the one.

Although shows as £69.99 on the website:http://www.sainsburys.co.uk/shoppingandservices/entertainment/instore_electricals/dvd_and_video_players/philips_dvp5960.htm?prevUrl=%2fsearch.htm%3fquery%3dhdmi%26x%3d0%26y%3d0

The thread on AV ***See Here*** is worth a read, and the comments do say you can't go wrong for the price!

I got one at the Arinston Centre Durham so I can confirm they are £49.99 instore. :)

Some have had a issue with the firmware revision but this can be upgraded and doesn't seam to of put folks off. Some have also posted that their player has the most recent firmware. Are you close to a Sainsburys?

is there a model with recording also? am interested, but would rather spend a bit more and get recording function aswell :)

Cheers 50p. Been looking for one of these for ages. Phoned my local Sainsburys and they still have them for £49.99...

Voted hot and added to yo'n Rep.

Forgot to say, a 15min search on the net showed me that all the others were around 69.99. Apart from some dodgy electric shop i've never heard of which was £62 with del.

Sainsburys had some in for £1.99 !! but I think most stock is now gone, I posted a thread for this. Next cheapest is Play.com ***See Here*** £7.99. This is still agood price for a HDMI cable but a sucker when you think that sainburys had them for £1.99

Still better than the £25 Currys want off you!

This thread could do with some more heat, I'm surprised it only around the 30 degrees mark, it's a smashing little HDMI player for £49.99 Hope you have all voted hot.

Thanks for that 50p!

Just picked one up at Sainsburys in Aberdeen, thanks to the OP

I think you'll get more response if you add to the title and description that it plays from USB. Not many branded players do this, especially for the price.

I only brought it for the USB, works great with my 4gb mem stick, holds 5 (divX) films.

Wahay!!!

Finally, I've got something off here.

Had one left in Nottingham a couple of hours ago - but there's none of the 2m HDMI cables for peanuts.
so I'm off ordering one from Play.

I certainly missed the Sainsbury offer and has been scouring around for one in Central London for the past 2 weeks to no avail.

Not sure about Laksys as there are quite alot of bad reviews about their service.

Hi poolfan, might be worth ringing round a few stores if you haven't already, also would a nearby store consider transfering one to you from another store?? I don't know if that option is available in sainsburys, worth asking though!

Still in stock @ Enfield, had two or three left when i collected mine today.

Finally got my HDMI cable and connected this up, and on the right DVD (Terminator 2 for example) it looks fantastic.

Region hack if you need it - and be warned, you have to really point the remote right at the front of the player.
1. Turn on the unit
2. Open the loading tray
3. Press the "Setup" button on the remote
4. Navigate to the "Preferences" page using the right arrow key
5. Enter 138931
6. You will now see the current region code displayed
7. Use the Up/Down arrow keys to select the region required or "0" for all regions
8. Press the "Setup" button on the remote
9. Press "OK" on the remote

Yes, I did call up a few stores and was told that it was a discontinued product and none of the stores have any stocks left based on their system...which makes me wonder since they are still reported to be found in some stores around the country, except for central london.
#37
You can get it here for good price to PHILIPS DVP5960/05 http://www.laskys.com/dvd_products/dvd_players/philips_dvp5960_05.html#specification
#38
Go to laskys.com £54.99 there.
#39
Just been over to Oldham and picked one up - they had about half-a-dozen on the shelf.
