These are the first version of these headphones and they have since been replaced by the mkii M1s but at this price I don't think it matters.

They were 180 new and the mkii versions retail at around 160. A quick look at camelcamelcamel and the cheapest they have been is around £100.

5 stars when reviewed at full price from WhatHiFi

I thought that. But if there's anything wrong then I guess they can go back. The stock is listed as new so I'm sure its all fine!

How's the bass part sounded with these?

How's the bass part sounded with these?

Reviews say its weighty but not overhwhelming and can be 'unruly' whatever the hell that means. Either way they supposedly sound amazing which is what you would expect at the rrp. Maybe someone with a pair can comment.

I am so paranoid about buying headphones from 3rd party suppliers on amazon ..

I've owned these headphones and they sound pretty good depending on what you're coming from. Id say they're in about the same league as beats solo but beat them hands down in terms of sound quality. Bass has a decent thud but is not overwhelming. The best thing is the size and build (fake leather headband, aluminium gimbles and memory foam ear cushions). They are really comfortable and quite small and compact making them ideal for people with smaller heads or who don't like the oversized look of many headphones these days. Hope that helps.

A few reviews on Amazon complain about these headphones are not durable, saying they break after half a year use, is it true?

I had those from PC World for £25 last year. Sound is in the same league as ie AKG K450. Build quality is very good. They are extremely comfortable and as standard they come with mic and remote for your phone.

That really was a steal. You must've gotten lucky there.

Ah fair play. Hope they sound good!! Couldn't justify the price of the Sennheiser momentums

At £160 What Hi Fi in 2012 gave them top portables on ears in the £100 to £200 price range.hot.

I have the Bluetooth version and they still beat all the other brands of Bluetooth out there. Mk2 Bluetooth also available now & can be found for about £160.

I've got a pair of these and have done for around 18m. Great build quality. Can't see how they would break. Solid metal band. Wonderful sound. Give it a few hours to break them in and you won't regret it.

cheers OP. not buying since it's on-ear, but heat added for the price. :D
#22
Anyone know the warranty you get with this? V tempted

Edit: Found a review which stated Philips confirmed a 2 year Warranty

I own a pair of Phillips X1 cans which I love but i needed a pair that were more portable and with a closed back for travelling. These M1's fit the bill perfectly. They are stylish and the build quality feels very good. They were voted best on ear cans on whathifi in 2012 and 2013 in the £100 - £200 price bracket. They are lightweight and comfortable, the earpads are very soft and covered in faux leather. The headband is covered in genuine soft leather which adds a premium touch. Sound is really tight, there is plenty of bass but it's not overwhelming like beats, ideal for rock classic and electronic music. In my opinion these are one of the best on ear cans on the market and for this price they really are a steal.

These at £53.58 or the AKG Y50 at £49.00 ?

I can't speak from experience but I think it depends what you are after. Having browsed the reviews for both, if you want a fun lively sound then the AKGs (they have more emphasis on bass and mid-highs - highs) If you want something a bit more balanced the M1s. The M1s are supposedly super comfortable and are great for listening for long periods of time. They are also a great noise isolator. The AKGs are smaller and more portable but arguably not as comfortable and wouldn't feel as premium. Tbh I doubt you could go far wrong with either, the AKGs just looked a bit full on with their branding which is why I opted for something a little more subtle for my commute to work.

Where are you finding the M1s for £53.58 btw?

This is a great deal. I bought these for £80 from richer sounds they are excellent if you like neutral sound, not crazy bass/treble like beats
