Model HDT8520 Freeview HD PVR. Twin tuners with a 500gb hard drive. 1080p upscaling too. Seems a good deal.

I would have a job walking in the shop because nearest is about 50 miles away. Get some good deals at Richer sounds but never online :x

I want a freeview hd pvr but think I'll wait for the prices to drop.
#7
Maybe worth the £9 premium if you prefer to buy direct from a shop - lukewarm.

Eh? Didn't know I was playing a game.

If you go instore you can use RS vouchers. The free headphones deal is still on. So is the £10 off deal. Also you get the machine the same day. Just because you dont want to, doesn't mean others might not.

This machine is riddled with faults my advise would be to get a freesat humax foxsat hdr its probably the best machine on the market

I don't think i'd consider anything but Humax (or Topfield) when it comes to PVR.

Oh I forgot the free mug too. Important omission there. :-D

freesat has more potential then freeview and from reviews it states that freesat hd is better then freeview hd regarding picture quality:thumbsup:

I think you're flogging a dead horse here trying to claim this as a bargain. Can you actually buy it for more than £300 anywhere?

Just a quick google indicates you can get it delivered to your door without having to bother with Richer Sounds dubious customer service for £275.99

Lol how is that a fail? The day amazon come and pick up your car when it needs it MOT or repairs, patches it up then bring it back, then you can call it a fail. Its a pity how lazy most of our nation has become and people are just paving the way for digital currencies which will mean the end of freedom of purchase for ever.

Give yourselves a pat on the back(!)

(oh and for all those who will complain about the photo and cry a lot, it's not real its from the Office Space movie)

Where did you get that voucher from?
#17
Through the 'Invitation book'. Although there have been vouchers all over the place for RS lately. Saw one in the local paper a few days ago.

Really?

I saw this in RS at the w/e and as i don't know anything about this, was actually thinking of buying it.
I'm going to be buying a nice new tv (just trying to learn something about them so i buy the right thing) and a surround sound system and was looking at getting an HD Freeview box that i can record onto.

Is this unit no good then?
Any links for the set you recommended please?

Do they not do a freeview hd 1?

It is a freeview HD unit. For some reason a lot of people can't read, or understand that there is an expense in the form of buying a satellite dish +installation for freesat, which makes them think its a lot cheaper. However if you have an existing dish etc from Sky then you are better off getting the freesat option.

my point exactly if you have a dish already or know someone that can fit it cheap then bonus and as of yet there is no good freeview + hd pvrs about the only ones worth getting is the humax and as of yet they have not yet released one i believe thats coming in july/aug !!!!!!

Which? found that high-definition programmes on Freeview HD were in high-definition, and the viewing experts judged it a significant improvement over standard definition TV.

For a guide starting with this line... well it immediately makes me think it's written by a complete moron. And I wouldn't put much faith in whatever they say after that.

oh great!
Anybody know if i can use my current freeview recorder with an hd tv. Obviously i know i wont be able to record the freeview HD but will it record the normal freeview ok still?

Yup works fine. It just means you will bypass the inbuilt freeview tuner in the tv.
