Found this in my local B & Q store on the deals section. 5 Philips Genie energy saving light bulbs, 11 Watt with 10 years lifetime for only £0.39p [before VAT reduction]. This makes it less than 8p for each bulb. A bargain in my opinion, in addition to being green.
For those who would like to vote this deal as 'cold', a comment for their reason would be highly appreciated.
Merry X-mas & A Happy New Year to all.

Why cold :?

Why does it matter to people so much that their deal has to be hot hot hot.
If people vote i cold, they will have their reason, it is not a personal slight against the poster.

Me- I am voting it cold because all but 2 bulbs in my house are halogen fittings, GU10 etc. so this is of no use to me, therefore, cold Furthermore, most energy companies send out bulbs for free.

Exactly my thoughts. I think some people just like to vote cold or hot, depending on their mood, without giving a damn.

These bulbs are s***. Got them for free from British Gas and you need atleast 2 in a small room to be able to see anything.

Appreciate your frankness Gertrude . If I start voting based on the fact that a deal is 'cold' because I have no use for it, then perhaps I have to vote 'cold' for most of the posts that one takes the trouble of posting. :whistling:
Thanks again.

Hot! Philips bulbs are great, turn on instantly, nice colour to the light.

If someone finds them not bright enough, thats because theyre 11 watts, they should get a higher wattage if they're lighting a large area, just like you would with any incandescent bulb.
I personally find the 11w bulbs fine for medium size rooms, but then its up to personal preference how bright you want your surroundings.

Also a bit concerned that the hotness of a deal can be rated by the personal applicability of the product. :?
#8
Have they got the ES bulbs or is it bayonet only?

Ive had the same thing with my posts, people seem to vote based on their own personal use for the product rather than if its actaully a good deal - 39p for these bulbs is a fab deal no doubts. Its important for newcomers wether or not their post is hot or cold coz its had to build up rep otherwise and any votes we take time to make a worthless at only 1 deree or so.... petty i know but still makes ur time for posting a little worth while and its nice to give something back to people for spending their time and willing to share their bargain finds

you can also find these for 3 for a £1.- at Somerfields!

You really don't understand the essence of this site, do you? A deal isn't cold just because you personally don't benefit from it, it's cold if it's not a good price for the specified item. By your logic, anyone without children should vote toy deals cold, people without dishwashers should vote dishwasher tabs cold... etc. If a deal isn't relevant to you, don't vote at all, you don't actually have to vote on every single post you read.

well said, they're a good deal for most and should receive heat

Anyone know where I can get cheap energy efficient bulbs with SES (small edison screw) fittings?
#14
These come on immediately................?

I hate those that take a few seconds to light up, so irritating

I need to get rid of all my slower ones, so these look a good deal.....HOT

Thanks for your all comments and sharing my sentiments. Sometimes I don't want to even bother with a post as some people decide to freeze it for no apparent reason. If there is a good deal that could be shared with other members, it should be given the necessary boost and encouragement so that others can see it and benefit. This is the whole essence of HUKD. You are absolutely right MistyUK that if one finds a deal irrelevant, they do not have to vote on it.

As far as I am aware, they had the bayonet type on display.

I think you miss the point of hotukdeals. To vote it cold because you have no use for it is ridiculous. I have no use for these, but voted HOT because it is a GOOD DEAL.
#17
i say hot i dont need any more for years as most bulbs last 10 years anyway but sill hot
#18
Some would ask why it matters what (or indeed why) people vote. If you like the deal, go and get it, if not, ignore it. The whole heat and reputation thing is a wee bit pathetic - unless there is some payoff in real life. If the solar flare people get their pints a wee bit cheaper in the pub, let me retract my first two sentences...
#19
The heat is a good thing because if people use the voting system of hot or cold fairly and correctly it enables us to come online and at a glance see the best deals under the hot section...it takes a bit more effort and time to trawl through the new posts section if posts didnt have the hot and cold vote.

Selfish b*s*ards voting cold to try to keep the post from general view so that they can strip the shelves before anyone else gets there. Happens time and time again with good posts.:x

Brilliant idea, never thought about that. I cannot get to B&Q until tomorow, so vote it cold.
Only joking really. But you have probably given a number of folks the idea.

Sabbu highlights my point exactly. You find a deal, post it and forget about it. If people make it hot or cold, so be it. Sabbu seems put out that someone does not regard their find as wonderfull. Youknowiamtheone is thinking like me.

And I do not post on every post I flick by or indeed read. I voted this time because the OP was so desperate for recognition I gave it. Normally,, I would have read this post though nahh, and some other thoughts not rellevant here and moved on.

I view the board using the option of new, not order by heat.

The important word here is cheap. Why do all the stores that are selling these energy efficient bulbs only sell them in large bayonet format? If you want a SES 8w or something similar Homebase will rip you off to the tune of £3 or so each rather than the 25p for a bayonet format.
The only place that I have found where you can get cheap SES is IKEA which is a PITA cos it's going to cost me £10 in petrol and I'll ending up spending more money than I want on other stuff. :x
#24
I voted HOT to offset Gertrude's cold vote :)

Oh plus its a good deal!
#25
Hot from me. I think they're the same ones that I got free from British Gas a while ago, which are much better than the previous energy-saving bulbs that I was using - the initial switch-on brightness is pretty good, where some energy savers can start very dim and take ages to build up to full brightness.

I doubt I'll pick any up since most of my lights have dimmers, but it's an excellent deal.
#26
Gertrude, your missing the point. Don't vote something cold just because you can't use it. The whole point of voting is so others, who CAN use the product, can easily determine if the price is a good one. The sites called "hot*UK*deals", not "hot*GERTRUDE*deals". Theres been like 5~ posts pointing out your error but you still don't seem to get it, hence my urge to restate the obvious.

Hot, but voted cold only to make the point to you facists that it's my right to do so! :p

(don't worry, I've more than made up for it by repping saabu, which is more than you lot have bothered to do, I notice) :whistling:

voted Hot so one person who voted cold now does not count, The real reason i voted Hot is because it is Hot
#30
Let's heat things up a bit more even though I'm more likely to go for the higher wattage offer from Wickes.

I haven't been offered free bulbs by Npower.

Saw these today and thought it seemed a good deal. You saved me the trouble of posting OP. No bah humbug from me!

I think they know exactly what they're doing - see above.

These would cost about, what, £3 each normally? So for 5 thats £15 it would normally cost. But here its 39p, 1/38th the price! How can someone vote that cold? They're a good brand, and do exactly what they say on the tin. Yes you can get some free with some electricity suppliers but not all, and I believe you only get one lot of 3-5, so you'll probably need more. This is the best deal on energy saving bulbs i've ever seen, including crazy offers from homebase, tesco and sainsburys.

HOT

Have been using for a while, best price I normally get is 99p each so would cost me nearly a fiver for five!!, therefore at 38p great saving!! im off to B and Q to get 2 or three packs as I have quite a lot of lights!! Pleasenote when they say they last for 10 years they mean 10 years at a few hours per day, my lights are on for about 8 to 12 hours per day and they last about 2 years, just thought that would help anybody reading the post.

heat and rep on its way.....................what a bright deal (sorry could not help myself!):whistling:

Heat Added, Good Find!!!!!
#38
Went to B&Q, Homebase & Sainsburys today. They had the offer on with plenty of stock but only on the bayonet fitting which is highly annoying as the 9 wall lights and flush ceiling lights I bought from B&Q only come with a screw fitting!!
#39
In the B and Q I work, in Poole, we were giving these packs of 5 away for free as well as others.
#40
At 8p per lamp, this is an absolute steal!
You have to understand that these are heavily subsidised, and cannot be manufactured for this price.
As long as you realise that the light output is the equivalent of an old 60w lamp!
