Good price, tempted, but already overspent:viking:....would suit me, don't want the inconvenience of a 5.1system. Heat added.

Got to be the best deal around good find voted hot.
#3
hot deal!
#4
But why would you want a 2.1 system? 5.1 systems are available at a similar price. They may not have all the bells and whistles of this one, but the essentials are there.

Spacesaving issue, not everybody have space for 5.1 and it was £400RRP so talking about quality as well comparing to basic £120 quid 5.1 system.

Good price for that set up. For those that want full 5.1 the HTS3357 system, a related item on the direct link, looks pretty good. Not on offer, but a good price nonetheless.

Now if I could just find a good deal on a 37"-40" TV I'd be sorted

Check out PC worlds £650 deal on a 50inch delivered LG HD TV! its an older model but has twin HDMI's and built in freeview! 50 inches may be overkill tho . . . . .

Regarding this Deal, HOT!

Will I be able to play avi movies via the usb port?
#9
This would be ideal for what I'm after but it doesn't look like there is any optical in for connecting an XBOX360 or similar?
#10
From what i remember from this in a previous thread, it has digital coax in, so you just need an optical - coax adapter.

Thanks , but 50" would bo overkill. I'd almost be in the tv with the size of my living room! If Dixons got anymore Toshiba 37X3030's in stock I'd be on in a flash

Yep, just found that myself, cheers.

Well, just bought it! A nice neat solution for the main sitting room while I run riot in the family room with my Denon, , Wharfedale Diamonds and subwoofer.

Looks like it plays DVD-Audio disks, wonder if that's at full 192 kHz stereo resolution.

Due to arrive on Wed so I'll try and report back on how it performs.

Would this system be any good with a panny px70?sorry bit thick when it comes to this sort of thing:)
#15
So...you might have room for a 42" panel but not 2 rear speakers? Must be a funny shaped room you have there ;)

Sorry, but a 2.1 system has no place in home cinema any more. You talk about quality, you're wrong. This may have had a £400 RRP at one time but I would be amazed if it ever sold at that price. You can get reasonable quality 5.1 all in one solutions cheap as chips these days.
#16
Better to spend £150 on a Samsung HT-X30R 5.1 system, which plays DIvX from Disc or from USB. It's not huge either so doesn't need a stack of room. Sound is awesome tho.

Can recommend HTS3357, bought it last month at £140.

For anyone wanting 2.1 this is the deal.

personally the issue is regarding wires, wife, electronics, quiet life.....I was contemplating some nxt speakers covered with some pictures of her choice, but the carpet got laid before I could broach the subject....:x

Good value - worthwhile post - thanks...

Don't be put off by 2+1 - sound quality is better than cheap multi-speaker alternatives!

You're right, I saw a 'Durabrand' in Asda for £19! :whistling:

Anyone 'serious' about Home Cinema will of course invest in a full on 5.1 or 7.1 system that'll blow the roof off, and I have one such system.

However, for what this does,at 400W RMS, with minimal fuss to setup, and for only £120 notes it is a stonking bargain. 2.1 systems do have a place and can sound pretty convincing with the rear effects, and are far more 'wife friendly'. But, hey, proof is in the pudding and I'll let you know after it arrives.
#21
Can you get something similar to this without the DVD player - already got a great upscaler!
#22
I have a XBOX 360. Does anyone know if I can hook this system up to the XBOX 360. That would make it cracking!
#23
As per the last post - would it be possible to connect a 360 elite, ps3 and wii to this?

Actually, I now don't think this is the case! Looking at the manual it has 1 coax connection which is for digital OUT. Looks like I'll need to cancel the order.

My m8 has this and the surround sound effects are a joke!!! 5.1 everytime for me im afraid my mate spent nearly £300 on his and in gutted at the quality from some of the Fantastic movies he has in his collection,
My 5.1 is over 6 years old with DTS cost me £199 then from richer sounds and still blows most expensive systems out of the water.
Go listen to this besides a 5.1 system before purchase at your local electrical dealer and you will hear the difference.

This system will leave all but the really expensive 5.1 systems in it's wake.

Cheers but yeah - ugly as hell. Now normally I'm not bothered but I don't think I could cope with those. Pity the black version is so expensive.

How can a system that cost £199 6 years ago blow most of the expensive ones now out of the window?

If you really want a good 5.1 setup get seperates

Why would you need a digital audio connection when it doesn't output 5.1 anyway?

Has anyone found a review or has one that they can comment on? I'm torn between this and a MCD908 for the bedroom...

I was going for the MCD908 till I saw the price reduction on this :?

What utter guff. There are many reasons for wanting a 2.1 system, as described by other posters in this thread.

I myself have a 5.1 system in my living room and a 2.1 in my bedroom - the rear speakers would be on the wall separating us from the neighbours bedroom - not a good idea.

I too just have an upscaler and a hd tele. Would i not need an amp to go with the speakers you linked to?
