Getting used to a new shaver
If you used a different shaving method before (e.g. a razor blade) and have just acquired a dry shaver from Philips, your skin requires some time to get used to your new shaving method. Your skin may become slightly irritated and feel sensitive after shaving. These tips help your skin get used to the new shaving method:

Shave with the new shaver every day.
Make sure your skin is clean and dry when you start shaving.
Take your time when you are shaving.
Make circular movements across the skin with the shaver and do not exert too much pressure.
Clean the shaver properly after every shave.
After a few weeks, your skin will have become used to the new shaving method.
A good start is half the work!
Make sure that your skin is clean and dry when you start shaving and that you have a mirror close at hand. Some mirrors magnify to ensure that you won’t miss even the shortest stubble.
Some Philips shavers are waterproof and allow the use of a preshave lotion. The alcohol in the lotion evaporates quickly. This raises the stubble, which ensures a closer shave.
Make sure the shaver is properly charged. A properly charged battery has a positive effect on the shaving result.

Skin irritation!
Always shave in the morning when your skin is properly rested. Make sure your skin is properly clean and dry.
Do not shave shortly before exercising. Perspiration may cause irritation on a freshly shaved skin.
Start shaving the most sensitive areas. The shaving heads heat up during shaving. Cold shaving heads cause the least irritation.
Make circular movements across the skin with the shaver and do not exert too much pressure
Move the shaver against the direction of hair growth and regularly check with your hand or by looking in the mirror if all stubble has been removed. Do not pass the shaver too often over the same spot.
Apply a lotion or aftershave with little or no alcohol to the skin after shaving.
Clean the shaver properly after every shave.
Replace the shaving heads regularly: the sharper the blades, the smaller the risk of skin irritation.

Price goes up and down a lot on this Amazon item. I got one for £15 just before Christmas.

I bought one of these at Christmas for £15 and kicked it into touch as a spare and bought the Wahl foil one two weeks ago at £17.99 which is far far better, but the price for it has now gone up to £26.98 either wait till the Wahl price is reduced again, or bite the bullet and spend a couple of quid extra you will not regret it, honest it gives a real close shave without irritating? the skin.

Wahle doesn't sell a rotary shavers, so you can't really compare the two. I use rotary shavers because my beard isn't straight and I get a much closer shave with a rotary shaver.

The key with this Philips model (which I use) is to allow about 1 week for a new or replacement head to run in (you will probably never need a replacement head because they are self-shapening). During this time there can be skin irritation with some people (I don't have this problem).

Keep the head clean is important for a good shave. When you take the head apart for cleaning, make sure you put it back together in pairs (blade and holder). If you mix them up, you need another "run-in" time.

I have both the razors and therefore have been able to compare them side by side and the Wahl comes out miles better than the Philips in terms of a quality shave, as I said I bought the Philips from Amazon when it was £15 and I think that is about what it's worth, because the build quality is a bit cheap compared to Philips of years ago.

As I said, it all depends on the type of beard you've got. I agree with your quality statement, though.

I got one of these for £15 off amazon the last time it was posted on here xmas time, it does a job but it is a really poor shaver. Sounds like its constantly flat but that's with a full charge.

Bought it as a spare and wish I'd kept the £15. The tip: "Do not pass the shaver too often over the same spot" is so off it's uncanny. It fails to pick up anything other than fluff without repeating the motion several times (which irritates your skin, oh and I'm not refering to the tricky bits like neck either)

Have to agree with what is said here. Also got it for around £15 to replace a Braun 190 which was getting less sharp.
One the positive side:
the shave is very close, it is light, easy to take travelling
Negatives:
1. It takes forever to shave. I have a quite strong beard and I have to go over the same spot again and again and again until it is all gone. As a result often my skinn is afterwards a bit irritated (nothing too dramatic but didn't have that with the Braun).
2. As mighty... said, the you always get the feeling that the battery is getting flat, even when it is plugged in. Gives the feeling that the battery or motor inside are underdimensioned

So all in all after a couple of months I have decided to invest into a new foil for the Braun and go back to it, keeping this Philips as a spare.
