Collected my brand new boxed Philips HTS8140 Soundbar reduced to £149.97 from Swindon Currys today. A few other branches locally to me have them reduced to £149.97 but they may be display models. Philips online price is £749.99. Cheapest online retailer is £550ish.
SKU Code is 442901 for anyone wishing to telephone their local branch.

Not everyones taste being an all in one, but perfect for me as the missus hates wires! It also has an Ipod dock, USB port, HDMI, Comp, RGB SCart etc etc

Are these really a patch on a real 5.1 system? I'm in the market for surround sound but it seems to me it'd need to, well, surround something....

Currys are also doing the SRU8015 (Colour Screen) Learning remote control for £29.97, this normally retails at £99. If you do look for this though be aware that they are also selling the cheaper SRU8008 for the same price!!
Good luck with your search.

like the idea of these - but are they not really wide and therefore dont fit in regular tv units

They are really wide, in fact just over a metre and probably do not fit into regular TV units. But as this retails at £749 and this price is £149, do not vote cold as you do not like it, vote cold if you think its a bad deal/price.

This is very cheap, I have the samsung version, althought it does not compare to a full 5.1 setup, it is good if you dont have the room for lots of speakers. I use mine in the dining room mostly for music and its great for that.

Does anyone know how to contact branches direct. The call centre is saying it is a discontinued item and they have no stock in the warehouse.

The Customer services should be able to check your store stock level.

They had these in my local 'price drop tv' shop a while back for about £100. Wish id picked one up now.
(dont even ask about the shop! everything else they sold was complete tat and it has since closed down!)
#14
If you call your local Currys Shop, they are able to look at all the othe Currys branches in their 'hub' area. This is what I did and found a couple of stores with them in stock.

I phoned this morning and was told the same thing, drove to the local Norwich store and they had one in stock they didn't even know it was on offer so take what the H.O. say with a pinch of salt.
Good product also, I have a Yamaha YSP1100 as well and this stacks up well has a lot of good features and not a bad attempt at 5.1.
Good find

So you did actually buy it?? Still not been able to set mine up (or even open box) as been a bit busy so no idea what it sounds like yet!!
If you did buy then glad it helped someone and as you said about HO, don't trust them and call your local store instead to check local stock. Saynoto0870 list allot of the Currys stores on their direct phone numbers.

Yep I bought it before the sales assistant did. Have been playing with it all night and its pretty good for the money my YSP1100 was about a grand when they came out and thats in my living room this one is in the family room but I can't tell much difference to be honest.
Heat and rep were added to you.
Also there is a region free code:- turn on and open dvd drawer press 9,9,9,9,0 on remote, region 0 will appear on screen then turn off its now region free (works as watching a region 1 dvd now) and there is a firmware upgrade on philips web site.
Regards

Hi G5rry, thanks for the region free tip, will try it when I get it set up!! Also thanks for the heat and rep. Was it brand new boxed or a display model?? Have you seen the SRU8015 Philips remote as Currys have reduced that to £29.97, retails around the £100 mark.
#21
Swindon Currys still have one!!
#22
Desperately to get hold of one of these… anyone know where there is stock in the London area (live in Tooting sw17 cant they cant see any in the local 3-4)
#23
Best thing to do is phone all your local Currys/PCWorld stores and see if they have any stock of SKU0000442901. Have a look at the Saynoto0870 website and get the direct to store numbers from their. You may have to travel a bit though as most stores can see stock only in their local hub. Good luck!!
#24
Many thanks mate, can travel and chase so fingers crossed.
#25
nope nothing left :( ahhh well

Thanks for your help though
#26
Here we go then!! If your prepared for a bit of a drive then I have found one that is a display model for you which has no guarantee on its condition. Its 30 miles away from you. If I post it on here someone else might jump in so if your interested PM me.
#27
No email so here goes:

According to Currys today there is a display one at PC World Lakeside Shopping Centre They also stated that it is reduced to £9.97!!! A Currys in Birmingham also has one but I forgot which store.
