Manufacturers Description:-
Play CD, CD-R and CD-RW discs
Philips is known for making products which are compatible with many discs available in the market. This audio system lets you enjoy music from CD, CD-R and CD-RW. A single CD can store up to 10 hours of music. CD-RW (CD-Rewritable Compatible) means that your audio system can play both CD-Recordable (CD-R) and CD-Rewritable (CD-RW) discs. CD-R discs are recordable once and can be played on any audio CD player while CD-RW discs can be recorded and rewritten multiple times and can only be played back on compatible audio CD players.

Surely that is just a line input for an mp3 player?

That's just a 3.5mm Auxiliary input (standard headphone jack), so if it can play mp3's or not is down to whatever your connecting too it, nothing to do with the HiFi itself. (it's simply amplifying a signal in)
That said someone above has just stated that it can indeed play Mp3's from CD, implying that the HiFi is indeed Mp3 compatible.

Just bought the Sony one for £50 instead of £150. CD. FM/AM radio and iPod Dock for all iPods. Remote control works with the iPod. Bouth it for wifes birthday. She thinks it's great.

Supports ID-3 tags - so yes, will definitely play MP3 on CD. Perfect - have a DAB radio in the kitchen, but wanted to play CDs too. Great price for DAB micro system - thanks OP. Heat added.

Yeah its got a 3.5mm line in, so pretty much connects to any iPod or similar mp3 player. This is a steal!

2 watts per channel! Would sound like sound coming from bean tins! Pity as not a bad unit for the price, OK for low volume with minimal bass I guess.

Price is good but the volume (2 Watts RMS) completely rules it out for me.
#23
Nearly went for this but seriously, 2W per channel? I've seen CD boomboxes that can output more than that! 10W minimum for something like this would've been much better...

Do you have a link for this Sony you bought? It sounds good.
Thanks

It's crap. I bought the DCB 146 (same as this plus ipod dock) from Tesco's to replace a Teac mini system we had in the kitchen that had failed.
The speakers are the worst part - too lightweight and boxy sounding. I should have sent it back but it was just about acceptable using the Teac speakers. It is low powered and distorts if turned up too loud.

Is the answer in the bold?
