I've got the VOIP4332S, from a deal last year (£20 for the twin set). Great phones just as normal landlines - sound quality is great and they look the part.

Messenger feature works well but is dependant on a decent connection. Shame a PC has to be on for it to work but still good phones.

Junk!
For one thing, they are "refurbished" ie. broken returned ones that have been patched up!

The "VOIP" phone does nothing that your own pc with a microphone will already do without spending any more money at all, let alone 50 quid! - the PC needs to be on anyway, and you can use Skype or Messenger on that with no further hardware than a microphone and the speakers or headphones you probably already have. The sound quality with that is excellent, most likely BETTER than any handset than I have ever used. (I use VOIP for almost all my landline calls anyway as it offers better sound than through a telephone handset as well as being cheaper than normal calls.)

My own experience of Philips DECT phones is not very encouraging anyway, even if this was a potentially useful piece of kit, which it isn't. Only Panasonic DECT has proved worth buying, and I have tried quite a few!:-(

As they are presented on a page being titled:
"Philips Shop UK - Refurbished & Clearance - Clearance - PC products & phones - Phones - Internet phones - Messenger Phone - VOIP4332S:"
it is a fair assumption seeing they don't state new!

They are still junk regardless

Beware that voip won't always save money against the cheapest landline call providers, eg. 18185 offers USA mobiles or landlines at 0.5p per minute. These landline providers don't compare to free calls of course between VOIP users, usually on the same network. But, seems a shame to have to make £19 of call savings, just to pay for a new handset, before you're even in pocket.

That may be true for some destinations, but Betamax/Finearea (eg. voipcheap.com & voipcheap.co.uk)companies offer 300 free minutes per week to many destinations for extended periods on topping up, (up to 120 days) to the UK (all I am interested in) as well as many other places and only when when that period expires do you pay from your balance. The USA is one of those places, so totally free calls there are possible.

I am not aware of any free calls to landlines from providers that offer redirection on PSTN calls, like 18185 although they can often still offer excellent value dependent on destination.
