Are you sure the hacking is for PET706 and not PET700 ?

Absolutely fantastic if it works for PET706.

£49.99 here (although it is reconditioned but comes with a full 12 month warranty). £8.25 for delivery.

These guys have some excellent deals and Electrotec is a wholly owned subsidiary of Servicecare Support Systems Ltd and has been specifically formed in partnership with Philips to re-market refurbished Philips products.

But why save £8 and have a refurb when you can buy a brand new one for a little bit more? :?

Why ever not? It's a 12.5% saving and is still backed by a 12 month guarantee and is delivered direct to your door.

The usual reasons for these returns are because they are either; unwanted presents, delivered to the wrong address, packaging damaged, minor cosmetic blemishes, missing accessories or because of minor faults.

These returns are then tested, processed, repackaged and offered for sale. Where a repair is required this is done by one of our qualified electronic engineers, using manufacturer provided parts.

A lot of money for a to pay for a cardboard box (that's if the refurb doesn't arrive in the original box)

Why take a chance on missing remote control, cables etc.

Save Another 10% By Doing What I Did!!

Find an argos with stock, then go to the nearest (within 10 miles) Comet, and get them to price beat.
They match the price and then give you 10% of the difference. Total price was £63.33. Result!

Bought one of these on Saturday, very plasticky, picture reasonable, sound poor. Big ugly battery sticks out the back, not shown in any photos I have seen of the player. The battery only lasts for 2 hours, a bit more if you turn the brightness down. Not much use on a plane or anywhere you can't plug it in.

Took it back today.

What HIFI are recommending the
'Philips PET 720/05 Portable DVD Player with 7" Display', available for about £118, much better picture, internal battery that lasts 4 hours. Not cheaper but far better value.

lol But we're talking 12.5% of sixty odd quid here not of a grand or two. There's no way that I'd sooner have eight quid in my arse pocket and take a chance on a refurb. At the end of the day, it's been refurbished for a reason and normally that reason is because it was sub-standard to begin with! :whistling:

See my previous post for why it is likely to be a refurb :)

And don't forget
All products sold through this website carry a 7 day ‘no quibble’ return policy

That deal is so good ive just been sick in my tea.

Thanks, I picked this up from my local Argos this afternoon. Hacked it already too. Now watching The Simpsons on it :-D
#24
does anyone know if this comes with the straps to attach it to the head rest or do you have to buy the "gadget bag" separatly?
#25
Picked mine up today. Very impressed with the build quality, picture quality and sound compared to others I have looked at in this price range. No dead pixels on mine which is always a bit of a concern.

In response to your question 1982, no this doesn't come with straps for the head rest. You will need a seperate bag Case Logic do a good range.
#26
If anyone has bought one of these and is worried at the loud whining noise coming from the unit, check to see if the thin metal plate below the DVD has lifted up at one corner. It had in the one I bought. The whining noise was the sound of it gouging a groove into the DVD. It did it to two of mine before I caught on. I'm bringing it back and I'll stick to my cranky old laptop. The screen's bigger and the sound's better.

you have to buy it separately, it is 1/2 price too when bought with this dvd player, from £30 to £15. Still a bit expensive i think. Plus, looks like half your screen will be obscured by the see through plastic and elastic strap. item number 534/3896 . http://www.argos.co.uk/wcsstore/argos/images/5343896A65UC229804X.jpgForget it, don't buy one of these, they're rubbish!!
#28
Many thanks to the op for this, been waiting awhile for a cheapie and this fits the bill. If you don't want the ugly argos case, it might be worth looking for the case logic pdvk3, seems to look nice and do the job.
#29
Hi all, I bought this yesterday  with the case. The plastic for the top of the bag just covers the corners and not the screen.
I am taking mine on holiday abroad. We are going S/C and all know the TV's provided only cover sport :x . Sooooo after thinking about this a DVD player and few DVD's would be a great advantage, Easy to pack as hand luggage.

Best Wishes....

Philips really are allowing anyone to ***** their brand name about eh.
Advent laptop PC World had with Philips on it...
That design looks identical to the budget brands Venturer or whatever they were.

I wonder if philips really need the money that badly.

The DVD player in the case is not the one this deal is about, the picture is to show what the bag is like

The Phillips player in question looks nothing like the budget brand players, It is much smaller and sleeker than the usual suspects..... bush, durabrand, venturer etc
