The picture on the Asda site suggests that this is the European 2-pin type of plug.
Does anyone know if that's the case?

Whizzkid probably just chose the wrong picture. They do a 3-pin version.

All phones (the big firms) from 2012 will be using USB as a standard charging protocol so it is future proof.

I think that you'kk find that this agreement by the mobile firms refers to a micro USB charger which the Philips device is not.

I wouldn't bet on it. My SE phone comes with a USB charger lead. Does not work with any of my USB chargers including the one that charges my iPod. I have to stick it in a computer to work. Expect the same hassle as you get with an iPod - some chargers work, most won't.

If you can't find one in Asda Play are doing a USB mains charger for a fiver also.

i bought a double usb charger from ebay for £2 delivered

actually..YOU'RE wrong. One end of a micro USB cable is standard USB so you can charge it from a PC. So this is fine.

The power required by the phones will be standardised at a guess, or possibly made to work on both 250ma or 500ma. What USB chargers have you been using? This is a Philips one after all and not a cheap one from Hong Kong :) Like the one above or here http://www.play.com/Mobiles/Mobile/4...tReviews.html#

This would be a hot deal if you can find one in stock.

Amazon have them for £13.50
http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B001C3W0EI/

And the Philips store has them for a rip off £19.99 !!

I bet Sony have a device that can't be charged by this. Tw*ts

This is correct. Most of the very cheap usb chargers are meant for low power mp3 players (usually cheap ones from HK), as opposed to (usually) much higher rated mobile phones and often struggle to deliver any charge to them. I have one for a cheap mp3 player which charges that fine but wont charge my htc phone at all, unlike the proper one, or one from a similar high power device.

And I agree with gingerboy, chances are Sony will decide to be awkward and use a different pin usb end.

Well I couldn't find any in Crawley today. Did have to rush round though as their car park is pay and display, I had no change and you only get a refund if you spend a fiver or more.
So as it wasn't in stock i'd have paid for parking for nothing. Daft car park..
