looks a pretty good deal (unless someone can correct me)

Good for an 8GB player but poor battery life and reviews not great, still voted hot tho.
#3
I got one and seems ok but not had a chance to play with it in full.
seems like drag and drop
had to install media player 11 (says it can work with v10) also had to install a device manager, like a driver.

Got the 1gb of these from amazon the other week, £17 free post.. mine worked with no disc, and was drag and drop.... easy to use., good sounds too.. THIS one is Hot..

15hr playback and 4 hour video playback! not many do much more than that in this ones price range!!

This is a good deal considering the 2GB version is £64.99 the same price as the 3.5in screen 8GB version which i am tempted to get with longer battery life.
Will have to search around for the reviews but first impressions are good......thanks

Big as in bulky? Or big as in nice big screen?
I've reserved one, to pick up tomorrow. Gone for the 3.5" screen, as it will primarily be used for video.

No, big as in screen.

Its a great video player and image viewer, the MP3 side of the player is a little complicated in the way it wont let you create folders etc, its not as good as my old one fr that feature.

Just got mine, and charged it up for a few mins so I could test it. What kind of format does it play? I've got a few 320x240 wmv films I converted from DIVX (Ithink) using SPB mobile DVD, that I did for my mobile (HTC TyTN II) and it's not recognisong them :(
#13
Theres converting software on the CD, it converts then uploads to the player in one go.

Yes I've done that now and it works.
But my point is that I already have a load of 320x240 wmv files, but these will not work on this??

This is really doing my heed in now im using the sware to convert avi to wmv etc also divx files etc ive also tried 3rd party wmv sware keeps getting same error :-(

Must say this is a good deal, but just reading the Philips manual for the these and wouldn't want to buy one due to having to use their software and wmp to convert / transfer files. Standard drag and drop is not supported.
#20
This is great for me... as want it only for music... and works very easy.. saves all the cs in order.. and you just schroll down the list , then pick one. or just play all... for 50. This is hard to beat. Got the 1gb one too.

Anyone know how to convert a DVD? CAn't see anything in the manual.
I tried selecting all the *.vod files, and it take wel over an hour to 'convert', but that didn't seem to dom anything!!

Hi Zetec, or anyone else that bought the 64.99 model, can I ask a question or two. I am torn between this and a sony 8gb one (£25 more or so). This has had average reviews at best with the battery and software criticised, but the in built speakers and screen size are really tempting me.

Firstly, the speakers. Is it passable to listen to music on these in a small office?

Secondly, the video conversion. Is it painful and time consuming? How long does it take to convert a 30min dvd for example or a 2 hr film? It sounds like you have to convert via the philips software. Is this definitely the case or has anyone succeeded in playing files converted through other software.

Finally, when turned off and on, does it resume playing music from the last track, or does it go back to the start menu?

Many thanks.

mickymcd and synet, I see that you were both having problems converting a dvd using the media converter. I just bought the sa6185 and am having the same problem. Did you manage to solve it?

Zetec, you seem to be implying from your posts that you have managed to copy dvds to it. Can I ask how and if you had any difficulties? It seems it won't copy any commercial dvd for me.

I have tried using Amersoft to convert files, but the mp3 won't recognise them.

Thanks for any help.
#26
OK, I have found a solution for file transfer for anyone who purchased the sa6185 and is having trouble converting dvds via the philips software:

Use your own ripping software. I use Aimersoft. Transfer to as similar a type of file as possible (I transferred to wmv1) then put the file in 'my videos' in 'my documents' on your computer and when you sync the mp3 player with windows media player, it will convert and transfer onto the player. No need to touch the philips software, which as far as I can tell won't convert dvds or protected files.

Hope that is of use to someone.
#27
Flake99, no I have not successfulyy converted a DVD yet. At the moment, I'm converting the wmv files that I converted from DVD for my mobile (HTC TyTN II) using the Phillips software.
