8GB should be more than sufficient...

Anybody know the size of this thing? The dimensions mentioned on the Philips site are probably for the box, as 20cm X 20cm seems too large!
#5
I found that by following the 'go to deal' link it took me to the argos web site which dispays all sorts of information including the dimensions......
Size (H)5.32, (W)9.35, (D)1.25cm.

I think that was a different model with a 2.2" screen; this has a 3.5" screen. Looks like a good deal to me - even has an fm radio with presets.

Yes the 2.2" one is still available for £49.99.

3.5" makes quite a difference and well worth the extra £15.

Good deal. Voted hot

I bought the £50 model last week from Argos.

Lovely bit of kit, very impressed.

Sound quality is superb.

Bought one on saturday, its huge compared to what you would think, its different to what the picture shows on the argos website.
Great spec but for me a little to big to carry around on a regular, its bigger than the ipod touch!

Also exempt from argos's 30 day back guarentee, even if the package has not been opened :| unless the manager allows it.

Going to go and try return mine 2day, and pick up the Creative ZEN, which has the same specs but just no loudspeaker. But has expandable memory and only credit-card size =)
#13
How is it different ot the picture? I bought one a few weeks ago, and it looks the same.
It is big, but not that big!! But you're not going to get a 3.5" screen on a credit card size unit!!?

The one thing I find a real pain on this, is that it looks (to me anyway) that you HAVE to use their software to convert videos to use on it. Also, I haven't worked out how to rip a DVD for this thing. Anyone know how to do this?
#14
Took mine back last week for a refund informed argos wouldnt charge up :whistling: anyway purchased the sumvision ice from scan which im happy with the philips is ok say for in the car etc but too big for personal carrying.Plus the dreadful convertor software was **** with the philips and the choppy playback of the wmv wasnt too good :x
#15
Must admit, i was thinking of doing the same. Trying for a refund, and buying the sumivision, but wasn't sure what story I could spin to Argos. How did you take it back? It's one of those where you have to practically destroy the pakaging to get to the product!! Did you take it back 'loose' in a bag?

the picture shown on argos website is the picture for the 2.2" screen. The 3.5" screen has speakers which is not shown in the picture. They have used the same picture for both models when they are different.
Getting a 2.5" screen on the credit card size unit which is a compromise im taking to get something which is ALOT smaller. 2.5" screen is quite decent aswell so fits my purpose =)

Hi
I took the unit back to Argos and told them the truth I couldn't get the software to convert anything useful at all! I was also told by Philips that it would accept .avi files direct from your PC - no way!. Its useless! anyway either I am doing something basically wrong or the software has a bug in it?
It should work striaght out of the box!

When you take it back to argos say that you want to speak to the manager, only the manager can make this decision for returning the product as it is at managers discretion. you could say that you bought it on behalf of someone, but since the website shows a different picture to the actual product they were not happy with it and want a refund. explain that the dimensions mentioned on the website are also totaly incorrect which make it sound smaller than it is. As they have incorrectly described the product they should refund you.

Good luck!

Here's a review. You lot are putting me off one of these now!

Dont be put off, if you want it for music.. top sound on these. mine is the £50.. 8gb one. and iv got sony, the stone plus, the archos 204..20gb ones etc.. and YES it is a little larger. not as big as say a mini disc.. but for all the cds you can get on it, this is a fine mp3... And lots of cases will fit it, nice and cheap. phone or camara ones are ok.. This is easy to charge, via pc, or a home mains type.. easy to put music on, drag and drop. easy to take um off.. not like the archos one..and batt life ok also.. the £50 one for me is the better music deal.hot

Why is the £50 one better, because of it's size?

Can't you just use any smv transcoder to do the output? My daughter has a 2GB Go-Gear Philips MP4 player and the supplied transcoder isn't that bad - is there a later version on the Philips website?
#23
Well, if my past phillips hdd6320 taught me anything is that phillips mp3 players are to be avoided at any cost. It was lovely to look at but horrible on functional part.

Good call:thumbsup:

Argos will refund these aslong as they are sealed in their original packaging, no need to ask for the manager.

However if they have been opened, you wont be able to get a refund, even if you say 'its the wrond size' as you can see the product on the packaging.

How do you know that? Do you work for them? Mine is open, and from some of the replies above, it seems others have returned opened units, as they mention how ****** the software is?

Yes I do, my store wouldnt take it back for that reason 'buggy software', as it could be your computer etc, and we do operate a repair facility for these, so if the actual unit is returned as faulty, its at the managers descretion to send the unit for repair or replace.

DUDE 1971,... NO the £50 one i have is better for me.. As its cheaper..ha.. And i only want the music side of it.. mart

If you want a video player then get an archos. I can't recommend them highly enough. I hate all this transcoding video, with an archos you can just put your avi's straight on there. They cost more but in my opinion are well worth it.

After using one of these for a week, I must admit I cannot recommend them, it is big, a lot bigger than Argos let on, it certainly isn't something you can slip in your pocket. Performance was ok, music and radio performance was ok but showing images and movies was "choppy and slow" Converting a movie is also a real pain using the software supplied. All in all my personal opinion is that I was underwhelmed by it, there are better units out there. If you just want music then there are definately better MP3 players which are easier to use.
My biggest bugbear was however that the OS was buggy!! On my unit the top line which was supposed to show time and certain information dependant on what mode you were just showed random characters even though I had the latest firmware on it. It has put me off Philips for the forseeable future.

After a week I took it back to Argos, showed them the unit and had a refund with no problems whatsoever, full marks to Argos for this
