Been looking for one of these now that I have to get up before it's daylight. A very good deal for a good spec model. The lesser models start around eighty quid, so thought this was good!

The lamp has an expected life of more than 6,000 hours (7 years of normal use) with the light intensity up to 300 Lux for natural awakening

Choice of four natural and pleasant wake-up sounds, morning birds in the forest, relaxing beep, sounds of the African jungle and soft chimes in the wind.

Digital FM radio: With the integrated sound box this wake-up light by Philips lets you wake up to your favourite songs or news station every day with a great sound quality

With a build in sleep timer the light and radio turn off at set time after you fall asleep, this wake-up light makes use of an incandescent lamp

All depends who you wake up next to I would leave the light off !!!

I like the idea of these, but even at half price it stills seems crazy expensive for a light and alarm in one.
I know it's not 'quite' so gadget-y but I have a plugin timer on my bedside light, and that works a treat for me on the darker mornings, and still cost a far bit less than £62.47 !

Saying that, at half price this IS HOT if it's what you want, just not my cup of tea :)

Now if your timer light had a gradually increasing dimmer brightness control on it it would slightly be more like one of these, but the idea is to wake you up gradually, not with an instant bolt of light :D

Anybody with a smart phone should be able to pick up applications for free/next to nothing that has the same functionality as one od these.

Agreed.

Sleep Cycle on the iphone goes a step further and only wakes you up if it thinks your almost awake by sensing your movements.

If you wanted to use the timer method and had an old energy saving bulb I don't think you'd have to worry about "bolts" of light.
