Philips 37PFL5522D 37" tv for £399.99 at Richer Sounds. Also, you can get the Richer Sounds 5 Year guarantee for only £39.99.

I just bought one of these last week (for £425.00!!) and initial thoughts are that its a really nice tv. Good looking, east to set up and good picture quality.

I don’t know about this deal but the first time I saw Bill Hicks perform I laughed so much the next day my stomach was aching; nice avatar.

A great deal. Not available online, but had no trouble picking one up from their stores.
This is the cheapest I have seen a 37" LCD from a quality name.
Very pleased with the picture and sound through freeview, but especially good on BBC1 HD via freesat.

Would someone please explain why (other than the price) this Philips is better value than this Hitachi http://www.froogle.richersounds.com/showproduct.php?cda=showproduct&pid=HITA-L37V01U ?

From what I can see, it's around £150 cheaper than elsewhere and is full 1080p rather than being 1080i.

So all you folks who understand these things, what did I miss please?

What's wrong with it? 800:1 is not that bad!

I do find it annoying that a lot of these lower end sets don't have a digital sound out, I know they are cheapish sets but it's not much to ask.

You'll find that a lot of digital sound outs will only do DD2.1. I just feed my stuff directly to my amp because of this.

Yeah 800:1 on that Hitachi isn't going to be great.

The 7500:1 on the Phillips sounds better, and I reckon the Phillips is a better brand personally.

Ah - you're comparing contrast ratio (800:1) with dynamic contrast ratio (7500:1).

Two entirely different things.

If you're going to compare, then the dynamic contrast ratio on the Hitachi is 8000:1.

There.

It's also worth checking the Amazon.co.uk advert for it, actually looks a nice TV and since it's in Amazon for £787, £450's a bloody bargain!!

forget the stats - just look at the image in store - in my PERSONAL opinion the Hitachis are an ok TV but appear often dull agaisnt other brands.
