8w is the equivalent of 40 watt

11w is the equivalent of 60 watt.

Cheap bulbs are everywhere, even Poundland, and lots free via energy companies (eg nPower).

Still horrible though!

That is WAAAAAAY over rated

Factor of 1:4 max to get a real value

8w - 32w equivalent

That sounds more like it in the real world. Horrible gloomy things which take an age to start working - just like all those ecomentalists really. In fact they're so poor no intelligent person would choose them so they've had to ban the incandescent ones to force us to change. I'm all for energy saving but not with these.

I'll wait 'till they've got LED technology sorted (coming soon!).

Tesco has/had 23w lamps that are actually pretty good - instant start (pretty bright, from switch on) and reach full brightness pretty fast (Unless installed outside in this cold weather!)

nPower sent me some Philips ones, and they are not as good,
