These aren't that great. I ordered one from a different site a few months back.
I can only imagine it being seen from over a mile away, on a clear night, when there are no other lights around.
Battery will run out sooner then you think and it's a ****** to replace. I didn't get a spare one when I bought the thing.
#13
so long as it can iluminate close areas well then i am happy. out of intrest how long did the battery last?
thanks for the comments!
#14
I've had one for over a year and the battery is still good.
#15
i disagee. i have one which i think is the same brand. it has one buttom which is on both sides. really bright light. and has lasted me quite a while. can remember paying more than 5 or 6 quid for it in millets.
#16
mmmm... sounds possitive.
with electronics there is always the possibility of a bad batch etc.
#17
for £2.99 you can't go wrong :):)
ordered
#18
i agree... you also have stargate as you pic so you > all :P
#19
I guess if you see a strange light about a mile away, chances are it's someone off here, lol..

I dunno whether to go for a couple of these, a mate at work gave me a similar thing that he got from the 99p store for 2 - that is pretty bright and I've used it loads in the likes of lift breakdowns and what not (btw, our lifts break down multiple times a week)
#20
nice if the lift breaks down with M+F inside :giggle: :-D :-D
#21
i ordered 2 for stocking fillers £2.99 cant go wrong and i aint after it 2 c for a mile away! if it does the job for closeness thats all i want! thanks great bargain!! :pirate:
#22
Is this the one edi shines??? thanks ronhaze I've just ordered.
#23
I think this would be really handy for taking camphone pics in poor light (as long as you hold it behind the camera!)
#24
Ordered one of these. Looks like a bargain at £2.99
#25
All the Photons have a keyring attachment to my knowledge.

If this is based on the original Photon 1 (don't know where Play.com get the 'Micron' tag from" then it's worth £2.99.

I got a Photon Freedom Micro not long ago and it's super bright for it's size, although admittedly this is the new top of the range "100% brighter" model, But is also cost a lot more than this too.

Info on the full range here.

I bought loads of these from IWOOT (I think) when they were on offer there a year or so ago. They are really useful, but then I was gutted to see you can get them 2 for £1 at Poundland!! I splashed out £1 and found that they are just as good ... certainly if you just want something to help you find the keyhole or read a map in the car.
#27
You bu66ers have run them out now.

All gone!

I have some of these i got off ebay a while back, think they where £4.99 for 7

They are pretty bright but no way are they worth the so called rrp of £12.99!!! these are items that you'd find in the pound shop 2 for a quid

They are handy none the less but not really worth the £2.99 yet alone £12.99

O well as I never go into pound shops how was I to know!!! still it'll come in handy I'm sure
#29
I got two in Poundland for a pound each but then saw them at two for a pound the following week in the same shop:-( anyway they lasted a couple of years so i was quite happy with them.
#30
These are great, however £2.99 is a massive rip off as others say they are about 50p in pound shops and on Ebay.

You can get multiple colours too for that price.

79 degrees

availability: Out now
Waiting for delivery of stock.

These are proper Photon ones - not cheap knockoffs from Ebay/Poundland. I had one of the original ones with a blue LED and it lasted for a few years.
#32
Makes no real difference to these things. My 50p one has lasted about 2 years so far and shows no sign of being dimmer than when new.
#33
Hey Guys.

Just cos a car has four wheels, doesn't make it a Rolls, does it?

this is a PHOTON!

Look here and read!!

Ahh, well if the manufacturer tells you it's better than their rivals product then of course it must be.

Looks 'exactly' the same as mine. I just held it up to the screen and I couldn't tell the difference in the slightest. Mine is still incredibly bright and I haven't changed the battery despite using it numerous times over the last couple years (maybe only 18 months).

It's a 50p product.

I am not saying the 50p one isn't as good.

Sometimes the 'copies' are even better than the original and if proton didn't do a good enough job protecting their design then the copies WILL look identical, wont they?

MAGLITES must be one of the most copied torches around and there are similar products around and they do the job very well, but it's a bit of a 'Lables' thing. the Proton Torch, like the 'Swiss Army knife' is a bit of a status to some.

The 50p 'hong kong Phooey' doesn't have as much cred but still does the job.
#37
Sorry i have to agree with rizla01 :!:
#38
my 50p blue one from ebay is still working 2 years on, the problem is the keyrings broken!
#39
hmm they have put the price up to £6.99 now!

The Photon range have been acknowledged as the best on the block since the early nineties, back then they had the market to themselves - they defined it.

This deal appears to be for the the model based on the original Photon, which was unchallenged for brightness in its day.

The cheapo poundland models are great for what they are, but they ain't as well made, and use off-brand batteries to get down to this price point. Which is OK if you buy a few in case the button goes flakey or the batteries were ancient.

I've used them all, and none of them compare to my white Photon Freedom, it's brighter and much whiter than my Maglight (with a bit less range due to no focus ring of course), and it's brighter than other 1 LED torches, a 3 LED, and even just manages to beat a four LED waterproof torch I have knocking about. Plus a life time guarantee if it dies on you (not the batteries mind!)

This complete LED nut here tested the new ones and got "close to 50 lux at one metre" on fresh batteries - which I'd imagine is ..uh.. pretty good.

So £2.99 for the original is pretty good, I can testify to my Freedoms build quality.

Comparing Photons with the Poundland LEDs is as useful as comparing Lidl own-brand brew to Hoegaarden, because it's all just Beer, innit? :P
