Have one of these myself, they are ace fun! Cheapest price around here, Play usually sell them for £25. Always buy genuine Silverlit product, and i recommend a decent retailer like Play as you can return it if it is unflyable.

A little clip of mine flying:

That is some superb flying! Are they easy to fly? Its the difficulty factor that puts me off. Heat and Rep added.

Also, 1 of the reviews says that you can't use rechargable batteries in it. Is this true?
#3
Hi Foxy102,

They are really only as easy as the quality of the chopper. I originally bought a cheap knock off heli, and it didnt fly at all. Sent it back and paid the extra for a proper one from Play, and you can see how well it flies in that video. Then the company that sold me the cheap one sent me a replacement fake one, and that flies even better than the genuine one. Follow all that?

They are harder than RC cars, but once you realise that you cant just thrust the sticks back and forth and do loop de loops, then yeah, they are very easy and satisfying to fly, and very durable too. I would fully recommend. Unfortunately, it isnt recommended that you use rechargeable cells, but i must be getting over forty flights per set of six Duracells.

Thanks for the compliments aswell bytheway. My local Maplins usually have one outta the box that you can try, mebbe yours do too?

Good luck, clear skies, and smooth flying!

They had them on Scan's "Today Only" yesterday for about £11 I think? That's doesn't include postage though, but some people here will get postage free from Scan. I'm not sure if it's exactly the same make/model either?
#5
I dont think the one on Scan is the PicooZ so best avoided. Think its a cheap imitation.
#7
I reckon this is a better deal if anyones interested.

Ordered mine...can't wait!
#11
iv got one of these.. they are amazing
#12
To be fair though, the instruction manuals for many disposable battery operated products say don't use rechargeables. They also almost always say only buy identical ones to the ones supplied, which makes you question the first statement! Regular rechargeables are underpowered and I wouldn't use them but ones made for camera use tend to have a higher mA rating.

You need to spend £20 ex VAT if you want free delivery.

No Bilabonic, if you don't have enough forward speed put a blob of blue-tack on the nose, a pin risks puncturing the battery and that could cause it to explode!

Are you sure it wasnt the 3rd party ones that were £17.99 h4x3r?

You still shouldnt use rechargeable cells i dont think PoisonJam, the milliamp hour value is only really a rating of how long a battery will last.

Ah, of course. I missed the h which brings a completely different meaning to it

Just had it today, origianl picooZ, yekllow one. Gonna chuck some 2100mA batterys in it. NOt worried at all about it.
#17
bought one of these a few months ago from play.com

crashed it into the wall and it broke, all within 5 mins of taking it out the box
#18
Got mine through. Surpisingly easy to fly. I do recommend weighting the nose down a tiny bit to give it better forward flight. This is the best buy of the year IMO. Great find once again!

It's now £24.99

Mine, oops, I mean my son's has arrived. Just got to wait 5 days for his birthday before I can play with it now... ;-)

Glad you decided to take the plunge Foxy102, they are a bit fun arent they? Just dont fly them outside, as when they get too high and out of range they tend to keep going, and you end up jumping up and down on your front lawn trying to get high enough to stop it from flying away.

If you want a friend for Budgee, theres a new 'copter hit the market called "Syma Fairy", which is supposed to be evn better. You can bet one off fleabay all in all for £12.

Just go for it, if you break it you can always get him a jigsaw.

Oh, and one last thing, in the manual it mentions twisting the tail by 30* or so if your copter doesnt fly properly, whatever you do dont do it. I very gently twisted mine and it seemed to break it.

Just took a look at the Syma Fairy. The controller looks pretty much identical to the Picoo. I may have to invest again...
#24
Yeah, i hear they are a bit more manouverable, not sure how the plastic shell will fare, apparently they are good though.
#25
Got a bit of a problem with my Picoo. The tail motor doesnt seem to be spinning too well and now the whole heli is spinning like crazy!. I have taken the rotor off and checked it and its fine, i have checked the motor for any cobwebs etc and its fine. I can find no problem stopping it from spinning, but still it goes crazy (I have adjust the trim by the way!).

Any ideas?

also, what is the Play.com returns policy like, I think they may need to replace it.

Bummer.
#26
Pressing the trim button doesn't do anything. It is spinning like mad (a lot worse than adjusting the trim would do). The blade is fine. The problem is the motor (I have looked and can see no hairs/carpet fibres blocking anyhting), but the blade spins and then stops.

Weird...

Its possible that you conked the motor in a crash, or its not getting enough juice. You can tell if you take the rear prop off and try to fly the copter will spin one way or the other (sorry, cant remember which). This is cause the rear propr counteracts the torque of the copter that would make it spin. If your copter spins this way when you put the prop back on then either you have knackered the motor/something else.

If it spins the other way then i dont know what you have done. Play.com have accepted my return and are (hopefully) sending me another, in a different colour i think aswell as the Yellows are OOS, so give them a try first. Dont try any DIY as you could validate the warranty. I would assume that the problem is more of a malfunction than a breakage, you could argue that defintely, but i didnt need to argue with anyone so hopefully you wont either.

Alternatively, if you take a long piece of cellotape and affix it to one wof the foam nerf wing landing things on the side, and take that around the back of the rudder and onto the other foam nerf wing this increases the drag and reduces spinning. Of course you wont have as much turn, but its better than a kick in the teeth. Hope ive explained this OK, please keep us informed Foxy, unlucky mate.
#28
Cheers Andy, I am 99% sure that it is knackered. I definately haven't crashed it too often :whistling: , so that can't possibly be the problem. The only problem I may have with returning it may be the 'enhancement' I made (sellotaping the front of the copter and adding a paperclip for better forward flight) has made the black paint (the windscreen) peel off when I removed it. Although it does look like this has come off when it has come out of the packaging, so I may get away with it.

Apart from that, this 'copter has been superb...hope they can replace it.

Thanks for all your help Andy, it really is appreciated, I will let you know how I get on.
#29
Yeah, shouldnt be much of a problem. Although saying that, i posted mine First Class Recorded on Saturday and havent heard anything back from them yet.
#30
btw. this has expired so can someone please put that in the title

Just got off the phone with stupid Play dot stupid com. They have received my return, it was nice of them to let me know.:x Despite me specifically stating in my original email that i would like a blue one if the yellow one is OOS, and to confirm that this is OK by sending me a reference number for a return, its not Play.Com policy to do this, so i can either have a refund or wait upto 28 days for the yellow ones to come back in stock.

Its stuff like this that annoys me, the copters are now at the same price, its not really any skin off their noses to just cooperate and send me a blue one is it? A refund is no use as that now only buys me half a helicopter.:-(

That sounds like a good example of poor customer service and 'company policy' to me. What are you going to do?

I have just had this email...

Thank you for returning : X-Rotor R/C Picoo Z Micro Helicopter (Red)
(GADG)

We have arranged for a replacement to be dispatched to you as soon as
possible. We have also refunded your postage costs, which should show on
your credit/debit card statement within the next 3 working days.

Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience caused to you in this
matter, and thank you for your patience and valued custom.

Kind Regards,

Play

I think I have been lucky.

Good luck andy

I'm not sure what to do next TBH.

Play have refunded me £1.40 for the P&P which is nice as i have the receipt here indicating it cost me £3.08, and i still havent had any written confirmation or anything show up in my account indicating that they have received my heli back.

I could ask for a refund and get one of these FairyCopters which are supposed to be better than the Picoos for £12 off eBay but i don't like not buying from a reputable company like Play.Com who would offer me a replacement with no hassle. Oh, wait? I already did.:?

I might write them a letter asking them to cooperate or i would consider not purchasing from them again. I wouldnt mind as this is company policy, but i expressed in 2 seperate letters that i did not want to return my copter unless they would send me a blue one, as the yellow ones are out of stock. It just shows how much attention they pay to my messages.

I got one of these off ebay for a tenner delivered and works a treat. Was expecting it to be a pile of **** but was pleasently suprised.

Did u get the one for £0.99 and £10.99 postage?

Is that the same one as Play.com are selling?

Be wary who you buy from robot1000. Although the Silverlit Picoos are the best quality copters, they are all pretty much hit and miss as to whether they will fly at all or not.

My advice iss to buy from somewhere where you can easily return a faulty product, as the first Picoo that i ever bought just span around in circles crazily.

I am not sure if this is breaking any rules but i got my cheapo clone Picoo from eBay seller sellingvegas23 who replaced the aforementioned faulty one with a working one, so they are respectable and reputable, my advice would be not to buy the cheap ones all together and get genuine Silverlit.

Theres a good deal at QVC today that someone else has already posted, Silverlit Picoo Z's are £15 +£5 P&P or 2 for £25 +£5 P&P. They also have a thirty day no quibble money back guarantee.
