Back to £8.99
I got these today, to replace my 5s earphones, comfortable & brilliant.
I picked up the: RP-HJE125

Decent indeed...but the thin wires are bound to be a pain, and I dunno what it is.... But somehow these seem to 'move' in the ear, which creates a noticeable 'squeak' as it's right in your ear... I've got the largest size ear buds in, so not sure what else to try

Good sound but I should never have cheated on my Creative EP-630s
I think Stapsell meant the Panasonic RP-HJE125 Earphones rather than the tcm125. They can be found on ebay for about £6.

Cold!
Better to get the next model up, the 125. They were so good I got another 2 pairs for the kids.
Just search for panasonic 125 on ebay or amazon. £6 delivered.
I bought mine based on recommendation here http://thewirecutter.com/reviews/best-headphones-under-30/
which features the more expensive 125 model with inline microphone and remote.
tcm125 with mic are £12.99 on ebay & amazon

I have a Holux GPSport 245. It's pretty old but you can still pick them up new for around £50 on fleabay. I use mine mainly when I'm on my bike and it's handy if I want to GeoTag a photo. You just have to make sure that your camera and GPS have the same time then you can accurately tag photos on your computer.
What GPS gadget do you use JunkMail? I scanned the UK market for a decent one to use with my non GPS camera plus HoudahGeo software to tag the images, but could not locate a decent GPS unit so far - all reviews show issues.
It has to have a display for time sync with camera too.
I got the SX240 from Jessops (Oops!) just before Christmas and got cash back from Canon. It's a great little compact and the 20x optical zoom is amazing. I can geotag my photos on my computer as I carry a little GPS with me so I didn't need the SX260.
Better deal here for the SX240:

http://www.hotukdeals.com/deals/canon-powershot-sx240-hs-digital-camera-hd-1080p-12-1mp-20x-optical-zoom-3-lcd-screen-1496562

Yes, the SX260 has (battery draining) GPS but the SX240 is every bit as good a camera, plus with JL you get 2 years warranty.

Would this camera be any good for taking pictures on a safari? Don't really want to buy/lug around a DSLR or bridge camera. :p

Depends what sort of quality you're looking for and how experienced you are at photography. Frankly, if you're not very familiar with a DSLR your safari probably wouldn't be a good time to start learning anyway. I'm guessing you want a good, long telephoto (so you can get a close up of the lions without becoming lunch). Light shouldn't be a problem (unless this is a night safari of course). So, if you want a small camera which will slip in your pocket but have a reasonable chance of getting a good 'snap' for the album I think this would work but you can do better if you are prepared to spend more. The latest Panasonic TZ (TZ30) is highly rated and has a 20x zoom (vs 15x). It's actually marketed as a 'Travel Camera'. Budget about £200 for that one.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Panasonic-DMC-TZ30EB-K-Compact-Camera-Optical/dp/B0073CD6AE/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1360615261&sr=8-1

Alternatively you could look at a compact system camera (DSLR features in a smaller package and decent 'auto' mode) but by the time you've put a long lens on that you've invested a LOT more money (as much as £1000+) and it won't be pocketable with that lens. A bridge camera could be your best compromise with lots more zoom reach and can be fairly light but again not pocketable. Whichever route you choose make sure you include Panasonic Lumix in your search. Oh, and take a couple of spare batteries!

Besford, thanks for such a detailed reply, much appreciated!

You are almost spot on with your description of my situation.

I think I'd like a compact with a large zoom so I can carry it around and use it as a day to day too as opposed to having to carry a large bridge camera.

For around this money, do you think this is the best option?

Cheers :3

Yes, I can't say that there aren't other very good compacts out there but for £200 (say £250 max with spare batteries, case, memory cards) I don't think you'd do better. You may be able to get the price down a little from that. Currys/PCWorld do have an exclusive version which is virtually the same minus the GPS called TZ27, though it's not a saving at the moment. Worth keeping an eye on their price movements too though:
http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/panasonic-lumix-dmc-tz27eb-k-advanced-compact-digital-camera-black-12300424-pdt.html
More important is that most owner reviews (eg lots on that Amazon link) and professional reviews agree. Don't leave it to the last moment - you'll want to get used to the camera before you go but put it into iA (intelligent auto) and it's pretty simple. If you want to get more advanced it has other programmes allowing you more control. I've put my money where my mouth is: recently got a TZ30, replacing two earlier TZs which were both very good but the 20x zoom does it for me on this one.

PS I don't use the video facility but by reputation it's pretty good at that too.

No, that's just for show.

I think the "toggle-switch thing" you mean is the zoom control, t for tele, w for wide.

Yeah, but I was wondering if you can also control the zoom by turning the rubber grip (focus ring?) around the lens barrel, like on SLR cameras?
NeoDoug1
It looks like it has a grip around the barrel for manual focusing, but it also has that toggle-switch thing on top...

Ok, bit of a noob question here, but with this camera, can you focus by turning the case around the lens, or only by using the slider on top? (Does that even make sense?!) It looks like it has a grip around the barrel for manual focusing, but it also has that toggle-switch thing on top...

Spare battery for £5 on ebay here, can be bought for £8 from Amazon but probably the same battery anyway so if you can wait a couple of weeks for delivery you may as well save your money.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Battery-for-Fujifilm-FUJI-NP-W126-FinePix-HS30-HS33-EXR-X-Pro-1-X-Pro1-1260mAh-/270996953347?pt=UK_Camera_Batteries&hash=item3f18ad5903
The auto modes do not always give the best images on the HS cameras, unlike other Fuji bridge cameras I have had which were really great for just point and shoot.
You really do have to play around with modes and settings on these just like on a 'proper' dslr camera.

I loved the HS10 I had and was really used to it after 18 months, getting the HS30 is like starting again as it is so different in use but I'm pretty happy with the results so far, I'm just not 'at one' with it yet!

Right, my EXR settings are:

EXR mode - Dynamic Range (I found EXR Auto didn't produce great images)

ISO - Auto 1600

Image size M4:3

Image Quality F

Dynamic Range DR400

Film Simulation Velvia

Color Mid

Tone STD

Sharpness STD

Noise Reduction Low

Intelligent Sharpness On

I do use the exposure compensation button on the top a lot as well, press the button and rotate the thumbwheel. I often use P mode as well.

This blog is good and the setttings might be worth a try:

got these couple weeks ago, ok for the price I suppose. Hoping they need a lot of burn in time, at first the bass was far too much and rather murky and undefined, everything else was dull. This has improved recently but still not sounding right to me.

guess I've been spoiled by sennheisers for around the same price.
