My local Virgin Megastore had 21 copies of Pilot Academy for the PSP priced at £5, until I nabbed them all, that is! Pilot Academy is very similar to Pilotwings, is rated 6/10 at http://www.pocketgamer.co.uk, and is a flight sim with loads of planes and levels.
However, the best thing about it is that it is worth £12 trade at the moment.
The Virgin website has the game listed at £35, but these went through the till at £5 each, so if your local Virgin has them in stock, this is likely to be the price you'll pay. I also got 10% student discount on my games, and was then given a brand new student card too, as they've just changed them. I've not been a student for years, but I have found that if you ask for a student card, they'll usually just ask what Uni you attend (you might need to say you've left your Uni ID card at home). If it doesn't work the first time, try upstairs! It's worth it for the 10% discount without having to get the credit card.

A picture of my purchases (i'd removed the prices from half of the boxes ready to trade them in) in another one of my recent finds- although they only had one of these chairs in stock so it wasn't worth posting here!)

If the £12 trade price stays at that level, and you buy 20 copies for £4.50 each (with student discount), you could make £162 trade profit fairly easy, almost enough for a Wii...

What's your local. To save people going in there as you grabbed them all?

Did they scan at that price?

Good idea- Cardiff City Centre. The guy did jokingly ask me if I wanted more as he thought there was more in the stockroom, but as of yesterday the section hadn't been refilled- but the staff in there do seem lazy (GTA Vice City in a big 'New Release' section, PS3 offers not yet updated, etc).
Edit- yes, they scanned. I think it's a legitimate price rather than a mistake, as the game is a year old. Probably a high trade value as it's not likely to have been a big seller, hence it's a fairly rare game, i'd presume.

Thanks, might pick one up at luncg time.

i guess thats a £12 trade in price at cex then?

they will only take in 9 at once, and if you send in 20 in 3 goes, the price will drop in half, hence not making it worth it for me.

if im in nottingham tomorrow i might have a quick look in and grab a few. ill keep one though as i have a PSP.
#6
Sensible trading is the key. Took 9 in to cex for cash yesterday- £81- which (almost) covers my initial outlay. The rest i'll trade in with other titles and DVDs over the next few months, there's no hurry, because at £4.50 per copy i'm not worried about shifting them quickly. Heck, they can go on fleabay and i'll still make a couple of quid a copy!

I might start to post more of these games deals if this gets rated, there's one or two come up every week that haven't been posted here since I joined and there are always good profit margins over time spent.

sorry whats cex? cheers

I would move them as quick as you can. When I worked at GAME, the minute they found out about trade in price, being higher than a selling price anywhere, they lowered the t/i price across the whole of GAME. It takes them a couple of seconds to do it

We used to get people buy 99p games in dixons, and trade them in for a couple of quid, as soon as someone finds out, they phone head office, and the trade in prices changes straight away

Same with gamestation, blockbuster etc

so as soon as someone finds out, your trade in price will be less than the £5 you paid
#13
i used to work for Gamestation and morally i think people buying up sale stock should be banned, they reduce them for there customers not for money making..

I hope they knock you back
#14
None in Sheffield city centre branch.
#15
has anyone tried trading them with cex online ? will they take 4 copys of me, you think if i get them today and send them off.

No company reduces stock 'for the customers', they reduce it because they have an overstock and need to shift them. Do you think Virgin really care if they have one customer spending £100000 or one hundred thousand customers spending £1 each a day? All that matters is the bottom line. Personally, I'm happy to make money out of Virgin. Branson was one of the major opponents of the introduction of the minimum wage, and has few morals when it comes to business. If anything, he'd probably appreciate this approach to buying and selling!

Thats all fine and good but to post a deal and also post that you cleared your local store out is a bit out of order

So this a Hot Deal on how to lie (to obtain a student discount card), and display pure greed (by buying multiple copies to sell on).

Voted HOT just for the my, myself and I approach...

Swiped from Wiki...
"There are now over 120 stores throughout the UK (including Virgin xs and Virgin Xpress) and many more stores around the world"

None in Oxford Street or Piccadilly branch. Won't be bothering to venture any further as I now suspect this offer went 'live' a few days ago or more. Good spot by the grab-every-one-in-stock :whistling: OP

Fair play to you BillyX. You've got initiative. Good luck to you! I might get myself down to the Bluewater Virgin Store and make myself a few quid on fleabay.

Now that's fair enough, and I should have mentioned in the initial post that there was more stock waiting to be put back out, but as for the other comments- am I really out of order here, or on the wrong forum? As far as I can see, there are loads of threads of multiple game trading (the £26 at Blockbuster for PS3 games stands out), people advocating having multiple Tesco cards (which, I believe, is against their policy, even if not enforced), people supplying discount codes- some of which are only supposed to be used by the recipient of the email- can someone explain what I am doing wrong an/or substantially differently? Seriously, explain it to me and I won't post a deal like this again.

Most people on here like to save a few quid, so theres nothing wrong in making a few quid, as far as Im concerned.

I might take a look in Leeds cc store - but I can't see Pilotwings on CEX site? Pulled, or never on there??

The game I think is called Pilot Academy (if you type that in, you should find it)

I would rather someone say they bought all copies in their local shop, then post the hot deal, that the MAJORITY of people who lurk on here, find deals at keep it to themselves.

This is a NATIONAL deal. Its not like billyX went up and down the UK buying every copy of the game.
#27
Ive never been fortunate to find my own good deals, thats why I lurk on here..lol
#28
been into cardiff this afternoon and it does appear you have had the lot as the guy told me they dont have no more! lol

Ah, one of the lads in the pub got five copies after work yesterday, he's got six kids by three women, two of whom are identical twin sisters (never figured that one out) so more likely they've sold out or don't know whats in the stock room.

Is it just an off day today, i've noticed the Alien DVD deal and the Setanta box deal are both in minus ratings despite being pretty good deals?

Nice find, was listed as £5 instore at Hull Virgin, only 1 left so got it :)

good luck 2 ya!

Yeah, I agree with hawkio...mercenary ****

to be honest if BillyX hadn't bought a bunch of copies, then someone else would have. Just maybe not on the forum, still by posting this deal people have the opportunity to go to their nearest stores and check for the same deal.

A while ago i could see why people would be annoyed, but now everyone is an ebay buyer so why miss out on an opportunity just so someone else can take it?

None in Swindon. Was in there selling some DS games from cash converters - made £12 in 10 mins. The funny thing is I paid with credit card in CC, and got cash from CEX. If I just withdrew money they would charge me 1.5% - but here I got paid £12. It's a funny world.

i think most people on here would prefer that you purchased them all and didnt post it

but to be fair - most of the people who have moaned are people who are new to this place

Wow, this is you're first post? An insult. For all anyone knows in the four months you have been lurking here you have been snapping up bargains other people have posted and sold them on yourself without so much as a thanks.

Not only can you click on the link to watch the trade price fall, but also gives an indication of those stores which have had a large number traded in i.e those showing stock of 4+, and yes Cardiff is one of them
Btw my local, Southampton, isn't showing any stock - although there's a Gamestation opposite the Virgin store, so they probably all got traded there as they price-match Cex.
