This one is Vista ready too. The ebuyer one would be £25.33 inc cheapest P&P as well - good deal though! :o)

Plus £4.95 delivery:thumbsup:

Or available for in store pick up as already detailed ;-)

There was a big pile of them in Exeter's PC World yesterday...

A cheap way of getting another TV!
#3
hmm can't find it on the pinnacle web site although it is mentioned in the support section where it suggests this works with Vista, anyone confirm?
#4
Yes, I looked at the packaging when I was there and there was a label that said it was Vista compatible...
I've no idea why it's being voted cold as I think it's a good deal...

Edit: Just had another look at the picture on the site, and if you enlarge it you can see the Vista logo to the left of the actual USB stick...
#5
Looks like a good deal. Might buy one as i might get another laptop soon.

Maybe cos its only terrestrial meaning in a few years it will be useless

WRONG!

It's FREEVIEW, hence the Digi bit in the name and the DVB-T on the packaging :viking:
#7
So you just plug this in to your computer and you have digital tv?

Is that how it works?
#8
No idea about this particular model, but I think most have a tiny aerial that picks up the signal. I have read that a lot of the time the aerials are pretty bad and you need to be able to plug a roof-top one in the get good results.

Drphibes
#9
drphibes is correct - any Freeview card, usb stick or set top box really need a good aerial to work well... I can't imagine the small aerial that comes with them are much use unless you are very close to a transmitter...

My flatmate's got one of these. It's a good little device, and it does the job nicely. One of the neater perks of it is that the Pinnacle TV software can record in not only DIVX (which looks only marginally less-good than MPEG, but consumes a lot less space), but it can record the DTV stream itself, meaning zero quality loss on playback. Most DTV software (in fact, all of it, from what I've been able to find), can only record in MPG, which makes recordings look a bit rubbish. And VLC can play the streams, if you need a player.

If anyone here fancies freeview on their PC, I can recommend this. It's certainly better than the generic bit of tat I bought off eBay.

Nice find, Koma. Voted hot.

Oh, edit: If you haven't paid your license, don't tell the DSG your address when you buy it. They aren't altogether honest when they say that they don't pass these things on.

Thanks dxx...

I got one of these yesterday, and plugged it in to my new Vista machine.
The delivered drivers appeared to work, but I downloaded the latest ones from Pinnacle anyway - when I went to update to these it didn't make any difference!
The stick worked immediately in Windows Media Centre but would not find ANY TV channels in the Pinnacle TV Centre software. I downloaded the latest version of this from the Pinnacle site, uninstalled the original software and reloaded the newer version.
Rescanned the channels and it picked up 27 - all appear crisp as anything. I have used my loft aerial and a desktop aerial and they both give excellent pictures, but I haven't tried the mini aerial that comes with this.
I have to say that for £22.50 this is an absolute BARGAIN!! Freeview TV, personal video recorder, and the ability to create DivX files to boot. Right now I am recording Shaun of the Dead in DivX and will then try to burn it to DVD so I can watch it anywhere else too.
Even if all you want is to be able to watch Sky News on your PC then this has to be for you.

I think you'll find that they are required to pass these on by law

Good price.

It's the same price on the Currys website but p&p is £1 less, for those of you wanting it delivered.
#14
Any chance it would work with a Mac? or could i use eye tv software with this stick?
#15
Looks good, but is this price unusual?

Yes, they are, but if you pay cash and say your name is Mickey Mouse from 100 High St Disneyland there's not a lot they can do about it. Not that it will help: the licensing authorities just assume everyone these days has a TV and bully and bluster victims into 'proving' themselves innocent or coughing up.

I don't know, but when I looked around for a TV stick this weekend it was markedly cheaper than anywhere else. Most cheap sticks were £25-£30 at least.

It was discounted when I saw it in PC World, but I can't remember by how much. From what biglugs1 says though it sounds like a good option for the price... Shame so many people voted it cold for no apparent reason??

I have been considering buying a DVB-T USB stick for my laptop but I can't decide which is best between this thread and the other thread currently ongoing on here: -

Hauppauge WinTV £20.53 delivered

The prices are very similar but which is best? Or is there any better ones available for the similar price range?
Thanks
#20
The Pinnacle ones have software to save as DivX if that makes a difference to you... The Hauppage seems a good deal too though.
#21
Does anyone one know the difference between the PC World one and the newer one mentioned in the first post? Really interesting in getting this for the laptop...
#22
I was trying to figure that out too... I'm not convinced one is a newer model than the other? You might have to go to Pinnacle's web site for the full details. ;-)

Pinnacle's website is rubbish - it lists the ebuyer one as "Legacy" in DVB-T section and I can't find the PC World one at all!

#24
The ebuyer one must be older then! Maybe you can't find this one as it's a Dazzle branded one? It would help to know the correct model numbers.
#25
Don't forget the £10 off offer available to Paypal users with ExpanSyS. They have a USB DVB-T device on at £26 before the £10 discount, bringing it down to £16.

You're right - the Dazzle stick isn't listed on the Pinnacle website as a current product (possibly why PCW is selling them off?) but the drivers and video recording software is there if you want it.
If you have Vista or Windows Media Centre then you won't need their software, unless you want to record TV in DivX format, which is what I wanted.

If you mean this one then it gets some unfavorable reviews, and there is P&P to add of course

hey biglugs1 have you got a link for the updated software and drivers or could you point me in the right direction? I'm having major problems getting this to work on my laptop with vista, I keep losing usb detection and my DVD drivers go AWOL when I install the drivers for this stick! :?

Hope you can help before I lose the rest of my hair :x Cheers!

Eh? It's Freeview, so it receives a digital terrestrial signal, just the same as all other Freeview receivers? If you mean analogue terrestrial signal, then no. That would be useless in a few years anyway...

Thanks for the info.. I know it would be redundant in a few years but at the moment i can't recieve free view and i only have a Comp in my Bedroom (ie. no TV) So that's what i'm looking for!

How do you plug a loft or desktop aerial into a laptop?
#39
same way you plug in the mini ariel that comes with it

Which socket on PC I mean. Mine hasn't got an aerial socket like a TV has.
