I'm not very familiar with these types of products so am hoping someone can advise.

Does this (or the other Dazzle product listed) allow you to record from a Sky box to your laptop hard drive?

I bought an EasyCap device last year but couldn't get the sound to work so returned it.

However, it was a very easy device to use and the Dazzle sounds like it may be the same type of device.

Worth it for the software alone! I guess the converter hardware might be useful for capturing from old analogue sources - so VHS and analogue camcorders, but for capturing from a digital source, its probably better to use firewire/usb straight from the camera.

returned after 3 days. my dell laptop (2.1ghz core 2 duo, 3gb ram, intergrated graphics card) just was not fast enough to handle recording any type of footage from VHS, cam etc - shame as this device is so simple to use.

i think the main problem was my p!ss poor intergrated graphics card

That's nuts! A core 2 with 3GB RAM should handle digitising SD video easily. I used to do it on a Pentium 166MMX 15 years ago. In fact, the dongle should be doing the work.
