The Pioneer BDP-120 offers the chance to invest in Pioneer's unsurpassed Blu-ray player range at a price that's better value than ever before!

Supporting x.v.Colour and 36-bit Deep Colour, the BDP-120 gives the sense of realism that only comes with a top-notch Blu-ray player. Colours are lifelike and fast motion scenes flow smoothly without blur or jitter.

In terms of features, the Pioneer BDP-120 has all the latest goodies. Being a BD-Live player, it's able to access interactive features and bonus content via your home network system. Unlike some rivals, this access is backed up by a 1GB internal memory, saving you from having to, in most cases, plug in additional storage devices. Furthermore, a USB socket allows for the connection of further storage devices, should they ever be required. Finally, the unique Kuro Link lets you control the basic features of the player from your similarly equipped Pioneer Kuro TV.

Although cheaper than other Pioneer Blu-ray players, the BDP-120 certainly doesn't look it. Finished in the much-imitated gloss black, the BDP-120 fits in well with the current crop of flat screen TVs. Thanks to a new mechanism, the Pioneer BDP120 is also quick to start-up, meaning you can start enjoying the film with less of a time delay.

Pioneer make some of the best Blu-ray players in the world and, whilst the BDP-120 might not quite be that, its heritage shines through with a class-leading performance.

Now that could be a while

The uncompressed video and audio recorded in ultra HD takes up high volumes of storage space - 3.5 terabytes for one 18-minute clip, requiring a hard disc weighing almost 600 pounds (272 kg). The prototype ultra HD screen can use more electricity than an entire house might in one month. An early ultra HD camera weighs more than 100 pounds (45 kg).

How do all the bluray players mentioned above compare to the bd80? I paid £ 300 for mine a while back - I hope these aren't better models for this kind of money, I'd be gutted!!

That magazine is worthless, unfortunately.

In terms of Bluray quality, there's no reason a 100.00% perfect image can't be had for £100 now (the components cost under half that). Read disc, decrypt, decode, send to display. No processing is involved, it's already progressive, all-digital signal chain. Piece of cake.

The only "quality" differences between Bluray players should be for upscaling DVDs.
