Just bought this today. Can any audio gurus help me out here?

I bought the Philips Plasma Tv from the hot deal here last week. It doesnt have optical out so do you think am wasting my time and money buying this system? I also have a sky box which i would like to connect to it but that doesnt have optical out either so how can I connect this up?

I would like to watch in Dolby sounds so I take it I can get Dolby with the DVD that comes with this but Stereo with my TV and Sky?

This is the TV i bought. Rep for any help

Should have a red and white socket on the back of the TV, this will connect to the same style ports on the back of the surround sound kit - you would then normally tune the SS Pioneer to AV or something equivalent - this would then channel the sound from the TV to the surround sound - on my setup I have the TV sound on too, with the surround sound doing its thing.

Works for me at least...

Freeview and regular Sky broadcasts probably don’t use surround sound much if at all so I don’t think you’ll be missing out. ‘Proper’ surround sound uses 5 channels or more and requires a digital connection or 5+ analogue connectors which is beyond this Pioneer. For more Surround Sound goodness you might want to upgrade to a Sky+ box which does have a digital audio output. Check first which Sky broadcasts use surround sound as it might well be only a small minority and mainly films so not worth the upgrade.

Yes, and because of that, I am not sure whether or not the "!10HOMECINJUNE" discount code will work in this instance. 10% f it does, and again, 3.5% Quidco if it tracks
Either way, it makes the posted deal very cold though

I've been looking for an entry-level sort of setup... but with Optical in... and this one still doesn't :(
